ARSENE WENGER admits Robin van Persie is firing Manchester United to the title.
The Arsenal boss said: “It is painful to see Manchester United so far in front of us.”

The Gunners take on champs Manchester City tomorrow and could be an incredible 21 points behind leaders United — who signed Van Persie for £22million — by kick-off.
And Wenger added: “You know when you sell Robin van Persie to United that will be the case. He is one of the best strikers in the world and you know he will score goals. He got 30 for us in the league last year.”


The Dutch striker, who has 20 goals overall for United, snubbed a move to City, who are seven points behind their Manchester neighbours.

Asked whether Van Persie would have had the same effect at the Etihad, Wenger said: “Yes. He is at the peak of his game, 29 going 30. He has gone through difficult moments in his career, he knows his game.”

Wenger admits Arsenal’s hopes of glory are remote at best — although they have to win tomorrow.

He said: “A win against City would improve the confidence of the team.

“The title looks unlikely but we do not have to give up. We want to fight to come closer and then hope we still have a chance.”
