@ Seyijay, Sorry for the late response. i havent been to this site in a while. im based in california. I don't presently ship any car to Nigeria at present but plan to. I have beeen living in calif. since 92 and have a very healthy idea of the auto industry especially in the US Anywhere from now to 25years back, it will be hard to teach me anything new especially US vehicles. I pretty much agree with most of Democrat post (Hes very straight-forward, knowlegeable, and generous with his advise but sometimes on the itty bitty arrogant side of the fence. No offence). im sure i'll run into him someday. Hes in East Coast if im not mistaken. As far as the 1999 vs the 2001 Camry is concerned, its pretty much the same car except for few diffences notably the lights. front and back. The engine is either 2.0 4 cylinder or the 3.0 6 cylinder. For my money (as a Bonafide Ijebu ), i will go for the 4 cylinder because of the overall running cost. it saves more petrol than the 6 cylinder. However, the 6 cylinder is faster and runs smoother. The same engine in the Camry 6 cylinder is what u will find in the Avalon, ES300 Lexus or Camry Solara. There has been a slight complain in the 6 cylinder toyota engines more than the 4 cyl. especially the 4-Runner. So bottom line, if you are not bothered by the thin tail light vs the fat tail light on the Camry. i say step up to the 1999 and save some $$$$ ijebu style Any further questions, please shoot. I'm in the process of obtaining my dealers license here in california and hope to start pushing cars semi full time very soon. Buying and shiping cars is sort of $$$ consuming because of shipping, clearing, displaying and actually selling the car. You have to put a lot of arithmetic into it especially if you are on loan. This is a forum. im in no way dissing Democrat. He knows his stuff. Just my opinion. Another guy i've found knowlegeable is a guy by the name "ivvie" i think. |

Hi, democrat i really enjoy wot u are doing in here. Its really cool not too many people tend to want to divulge a whole load of info likeu have and a host of other peeps in here. Anyway i was hoping u could run the VIN numbers of these 2 vehicles for me a 1999 Toyota Landcruiser JT3HT05J2X0045029 and a 1995 nissan maxima JN1CA21D9STO48365. I will really appreciate it cos. I am about to purchase these vehicles but i need to be sure. I also have a Mitsubishi Montero sport presently being used and that vehicle was involved in an accident before it was prchased. Unfortunately my mum liked it when she saw it and bought it before i knew. I will be waiting for ur response thanks a million. |
Re: Used Cars Wanted by Chibdo: 4:19pm On Apr 13, 2007 |
i'd like to get the prices for these cars please: BMW 3 series E36 and E46, new and used. Big thanks to he who can respond ASAP |
Re: Used Cars Wanted by Democrat(m): 11:07pm On Apr 13, 2007 |
Promise72 I am not sure where the arrogance in my advice is, i am a dealer and have worked around or in the auto industry for a while. I have very strong opinions that can sometimes be mistaken for arrogance. Well all and all, i think we can help these people and do the right thing with the opportunity we have. Femionasan The 99 Land Cruiser is a good one owner vehicle and i think you should buy it. The 95 Maxima was in an accident in MD and has a salvage title. I think you should stay away from the Maxima. Good Luck!! Chibdo I do not know what E36 and E46 are, what vehicle are you referring to? Maybe it is a European spec BMW or MB. |
Re: Used Cars Wanted by promise72(m): 12:47am On Apr 14, 2007 |
@ Democrat, Like ive said, big props to you and keep up the good work. I am sure i will run into you someday in MD (im guessing) @ Chibdo, I love you taste in cars. The E36 and the E46 are the "AMG" version of the Benz E320 and E430 series. Consider them as the evil twin. I havent driven one but i heard good things about them. Blindning FFFFAAAAAAASSSSSTTTTT!!!!!. The BMW version is the M5 series. However there is a catch. AMG tuned Mercedes tend to be what is refered as a "Low volume Mercedes" i.e limited qty made. As much as they share considerable parts with "regular" E320/E420 series there are parts that are specifically for the E36/E46. So, that translates to you having to call Germany or US if you need such parts. Also the routine service parts like plugs, plug wires, fuel filter, brake pads, shocks, etc are different from "regular" Benzes cos the E36/E46 are HIGH PERFORMANCE BENZES . Hence, more $$$$$. it will cost you. Unless, you are a fanatic of MBZ like yours truly here (hoping/praying eiday). You should consider the long run economics of owning these cars. Its a case of "the rich also cry" However if you are loaded, i'll say go for it. If you plan driving in Naija, think about the road. Its uselss pushing a car that can do abot 300km/hr or more but no road to drive it. However, when time allows, these cars will bring out the kid in you. You will kill all the chickens in your neighborhood cos they cant get out of the way fast enough . That will mean more enemy for you. If you wanna be gentle, i'll say go for the 3 series and u know u will get parts for em everytime. "To marry a wife no be the problem but to give am soup money everytime is" A word for the wise. |
Re: Used Cars Wanted by femionasan(m): 1:02pm On Apr 14, 2007 |
@ Promise72 You got Chibdo's question mixed up there. The BMW E36 and E46 is the code name or generalised names given to 3 series BMWs 1991-99 an d 2000-2005 respectively. Its just like the golf i am sure you know they give them the genesralised name like the Mark1, 2 ,3, The present BMW is the E92. I am sure you will be in a better position to answer Chibdos question now. |
Re: Used Cars Wanted by femionasan(m): 1:08pm On Apr 14, 2007 |
Oh!!! and thanks a lot democrat. The Landcruiser is presently being test run by me right now. So i guess i can go pay for it on Monday. It rides well although there are a few dents here and there, the Maxima has been purchased already unfortunately. Well thanks a great deal anyway. |
Re: Used Cars Wanted by promise72(m): 1:31pm On Apr 14, 2007 |
@ fenionisan, I'll take that back. i guess his question wasnt well understood. the E36/E46 he was refering to was a chassis code. BMW and mercedes actually denotes their vehicles with chassis numbers to signify which model. Unfortunataly mercedes has something similar denoting high performance mercedes like the AMG E55, E63. ML55 etc etc. I thought he was questioning a difference between a BMW and a Benz. Back to the E36/E46, everytime BMW changes design/or body style of a particular model, it will denotes a new E code to help in identification. The higher the E code, it usually mean the newer model. I happen to have an "old school" BMW 320i, 1981. Great car. Runs like a clock. I still have it. its refered to as the E21 chassis and newer ones are E29 etc etc. @ Chibdo, I will say chibdo, to get any of the BMW you can afford. He's bound to get a great car. The 3 series BMW has the best handling of vehicles in its class (Lexus. Mercedes etc). According to my latest knowledge, the 3 series genarates about 60% revenue for BMW, hence the reason to make it one of the best vehicles. Its the one to copy as far as a "driver's car" is concerned. Any question, let me know. Sorry for the mix up. |

@ Democrat You are doing a very commendable and sterling job here, Please i want you to help me run the History of this 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee, the VIN is 1J4GW58S0XC721714, Thank you very much. |
Re: Used Cars Wanted by Chibdo: 6:47pm On Apr 15, 2007 |
hey y'all thanx for all your decent responses, but my question still goes unanswered. i came across a used american spec e36 that's going for $6700, so i wanna compare its price to that of a new one; and then i wanna know if i can go the extra mile and get me a used e46 instead, that's if the price gap isn't collosal. yet again, if the gap isn't pocket shaterring, ama get me a new e46. i've been a BMW fanatic for as long as ahv loved cars. |
Re: Used Cars Wanted by SEGUN2003(m): 9:47pm On Apr 15, 2007 |
Hi guys! I will be spending about a month in Lagos/Nigeria this July. Is it possible to buy a good car at around $2.500,00 - 3000,00 (two thousand and tive hundred up to three thousand dollars) in Lagos? I haven't a minimum idea at to car price or dollar rate in Nigeria. I want to buy a car because I would like to travel a bit around Nigeria and move aroubd in Lagos and eventually when I leave Nigeria, I have the intention of leaving the car with my sister to sell or use? |
Re: Used Cars Wanted by promise72(m): 2:16am On Apr 16, 2007 |
@ chibdo, its kind of hard to judge the car offered to u for $6700 as far as condition goes. How clean and running condition. But as far as im concerned, the car should be in tip top shape at that price. As for a new e46 in the US you should be ready to shell out anywhere from mid 30-40 thousand dollar brand new depending on the model (323, 325, 328). It will definately be higher if you venture into the realms of M3. As far as im concerned, for my $$ in the US, if i want a BMR i will go for a good used ones. Prices of BMR drops very fast after they are used that it might not be worth buying them new. Lease returns, prior rentals, auctions etc etc But if you have the $$ to shell, what do i know, im just an ijebu man. |

Inspired M I am sorry for getting back to you this late, i am very busy and do not come on here as much i would like to. But i will give that vehicle two thumbs up. It is a One owner vehicle, without any issues. I happen 2 love the Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo very Much, i have bought and sold and driven many of them, i have shipped quite a few to Nigeria and they have been reliable from my experience. Promise72 I am not sure if we will meet, maybe we will i do not know. But i am not sure when i told you i was in MD. I think western PA is a better place to live if you ask me!! Good Luck!! |
Re: Used Cars Wanted by promise72(m): 6:03am On Apr 17, 2007 |
@ Democrat, Its just my guess. Ive read quite a few of your posts in the past and thats why im putting you around PA. Anyways, 100 miles radius should land u in either VA, DC or MD for where u are. So its kinda the same. It all cold, snowy, wet etc. For my comfort always sunny Sothern Calif. The only downside is that i can't do a RORO for here |

Re: Used Cars Wanted by sultaan(m): 4:23am On May 12, 2007 |
Hey guys I'm new here and I like autos.About the jeep, try un/locking the the door with the remote, if hear a whinning sound, you have a door actuator problem. Other problem common with WJs(1999-2004) is warped rotors and blend door problems. But you will love the truck even @ < 19mpg avg. |
Re: Used Cars Wanted by sultaan(m): 4:42am On May 12, 2007 |
I think ebaymotors is another way to know how much people are willing to pay for a car. Most people here are focusing on Toyota and Honda, although they are good cars, they are overpriced when compared to the perfomance some other brands. The Galant is a very afffordable option. If you don't know what a torque converter is, don't go near an automatic transmission, you may need to replace or rebuild sooner than you think. |

Guys I am sorry, i have been so, so busy and do not get a chance to come here that often. I am sorry, but i think someone here in the USA, has to step up and help with the information and prices people need. Vronnie I do not do Insurance or accident vehicles, it is not worth the money. |
Re: Used Cars Wanted by sultaan(m): 6:16pm On May 16, 2007 |
All the information Democrat is giving out is available online, check autotrader.com , or ebaymotors for an estimate of what people are willing to pay for cars in US. To get an estimate ofwhat it costs to land a car in Nigeria, check price on both websites, add $1500 + (location)N300,000 for shipping and custom (another 15% for Nigerian factor) then you know what you are working with. Getting a '99 sedan shipped to naija for ~$6000(landed) is not difficult dealing with Nigerian factor is main problem. You have find out the advantages of stick Vs auto I-4,V6, I-6 etc, timming chain Vs belt, leather upholstery Vs cloth and getting service & PARTS! Most people on this thread like cars but do not have enough knowledge to afffordably own one so do resaerch first. You don't pay mechanics for what they do, but what you don't know. |

Re: Used Cars Wanted by Democrat(m): 2:18am On May 17, 2007 |
Sultaan I must say you are an Arrogant SOB. I have never given anyone here numbers from Autotrader or Ebay. Ungrateful people like you, just sit down and become an arm chair quarterback. I get my prices from the best DEALER Auction in the Country. Infact i do MM R's before i give people prices they should pay or sell for. Does Autotrader give you free CARFAX Report? I have no agenda here. But go ahead and give them all the resources the need. |
