I always feel like sympathizing with my good Muslim faithfuls, they seem to be in a “closed society” they can’t renounce the bondage they find themselves in easily! Why man needs to search outside of the bible for "proof" when all the proof one needs as to its own veracity is beyond me. Why a 'scholar' who claims Christ would deny His manner of death though it is clear in the bible is beyond me to understand. He is missing out on the perfect peace that passes all understanding. Islam’s proof that Jesus did not die on the Cross

Most religions that are non-Christian do accept the fact that if the Bible writes that Christ died on the cross, he actually did. There are a few with very apparent reasons that want to change this. Bahai’s spiritualize the meaning and in so doing change the facts. Islam denies the account so absolutely that they just chalk the whole story up to corruption and reinvent it. Ignoring the fact that these accounts are written by eyewitnesses of not only his death, but many more of his resurrection. Some of who would be classified as hostile witnesses.

Muslim Claim – They took another in his place. Everyone knew this was Jesus he was on trial in front of the Jews when they cried out to crucify him! He was then taken to be given 39 lashes (40 –1 as mercy). When the centurion in charge determined that the prisoner is near death, the beating is finally stopped, then they are taken to crucifixion. Most did not survive the whipping. Jesus if alive, would never have allowed another to take his place when it was his mission to take ours. Only he could die in the place of sinful man. What the Muslims are saying is that this is a sham, he purposely deceived the Romans, his brethren, as well as us today. Hardly a tenable position to hold for a man called upright and sinless even in the Koran.

Muslim Claim- They broke the legs of the other two who were crucified with him, but did not do so to Jesus, because he looked as if he was dead, so instead of going through all the trouble he pierced him with a spear, and blood gushed out showing a sign of life.

Any doctor will tell you this is not sign of life. Jn.19:33-34 tells us he was thrusted by a sword after he was pronounced dead by the Roman guard who was trained in crucifixion's. If one is to be punished by this means it was unto the death, the Romans were experts at crucifixion's. It states in John 19:35"And he who has seen has testified, and his testimony is true; and he knows that he is telling the truth, so that you may believe." Blood and water came out from his side after. This is proven medically that he had a ruptured heart. When watery fluid from the sac surrounding the heart and blood from the interior of the heart is ruptured, fluid in the pericardium shows death, not life. Romans don’t bury live people, but dead ones. He was to them a criminal and needed to be punished by Roman law, to neglect this is disobedience to their laws and the centurion would be punished.

Muslim Claim- the sign of Jonas: Matthew 12:38-30 For as Jonas was three days and three nights in the whale's belly; so shall the son of man be three days and three nights in the heart of the Earth. This may be the Sunday school story but not the Bibles. Jonah was very dead and resurrected. This is the point Jesus is making. Jonah 2:2 "out of the belly of Sheol" is not the whales belly because this is after 3 days. The Hebrew word for belly is different than the belly of the fish indicating two different areas. This is the place of departed spirits the only way to get there is to die. The focus of the story is not existing 3 days alive in a fish but someone coming back from the dead. This is the very point Jesus is making, he raised others and he will raise himself. This he says will be the last sign to an unbelieving Israel the sign of Jonah.

Notice they use the parts of the scripture to try to prove the Christian (and bible) is wrong, but ignore the whole of Scripture and the testimony of the WHOLE New Testament Jn.12:27.

The fact is that he did die, so when would this have occurred? It points to the fact of Ps.22:19-22 and Isa.53:5 "But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was upon him, and by his wounds we are healed." 6 "We all, like sheep, have gone astray, each of us has turned to his own way; and the LORD has laid on him the iniquity of us all."7 He was oppressed and afflicted, yet he did not open his mouth; he was led like a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before her shearers is silent, so he did not open his mouth." The lamb slain, the Passover lamb.

I can't figure out the points you are trying to drive at but what do you make out from this? Did Jesus Die or Not? Surah 3:144 is quite adamant that all messengers died before Muhammad. But then Surah 4:158 claims that Jesus was raised to God (alive?) and 4:157 falsely says Jesus did not die.
- In Surah 4:157 we read that Jesus certainly did not die, yet in Surah 19:33 we read that not only did he die, but he arose again! 19:33 reads about Jesus: "And peace be upon me the day I was born, the day I die, and the day I get resurrected."

Little Evidence Jesus Died on a Cross, Says Scholar

(June 27) -- The crucifix is the defining symbol of Christianity, a constant reminder to the faithful of the sacrifice and suffering endured by Jesus Christ for humanity. But an extensive study of ancient texts by a Swedish pastor and academic has revealed that Jesus may not have died on a cross, but instead been put to death on another gruesome execution device.

Gunnar Samuelsson -- a theologian at the University of Gothenburg and author of a 400-page thesis on crucifixion in antiquity -- doesn't doubt that Jesus died on Calvary hill. But he argues that the New Testament is in fact far more ambiguous about the exact method of the Messiah's execution than many Christians are aware.

"When the Gospels refer to the death of Jesus, they just say that he was forced to carry a "stauros" out to Calvary," he told AOL News. Many scholars have interpreted that ancient Greek noun as meaning "cross," and the verb derived from it, "anastauroun," as implying crucifixion. But during his three-and-a-half-year study of texts from around 800 BC to the end of the first century AD, Samuelsson realized the words had more than one defined meaning.

"'Stauros' is actually used to describe a lot of different poles and execution devices," he says. "So the device described in the Gospels could have been a cross, but it could also have been a spiked pole, or a tree trunk, or something entirely different." In turn, "anastauroun" was used to signify everything from the act of "raising hands to suspending a musical instrument."

The manner in which Jesus died is further thrown into question by Samuelsson's discovery that crucifixion may have been an unusual form of punishment in the Roman Empire. Descriptions of crucifixions contained in the thousands of Hebrew, Aramaic, Latin and Greek manuscripts he examined most commonly referred to dead prisoners being placed on some form of suspension device, or living captives skewered on stakes. The first century Roman philosopher Seneca the Younger, for example, wrote about seeing a great many prisoners of war on "crosses" after one campaign. But the scribe then describes how a large number of the dead had been impaled.

"If you search for ancient texts that specifically mention the act of crucifixion [as we understand it today]" he says, "you will end up with only two or three examples."

That revelation stands in stark contrast to claims that appear in many books on the historical Jesus, as well as more general surveys of life under Roman rule, which state that prisoners were routinely nailed to crosses. (The Encylopaedia Britannica, for example, says crucifixion was an "important method of capital punishment" in Rome.)

Of course, this lack of hard evidence doesn't mean that the Roman Empire was a crucifix-free zone. Samuelsson suspects that crucifixion was simply one of a great many methods of execution employed across the empire. He notes that Flavius Josephus -- a Jewish historian and adviser to three Roman emperors in the 1st century -- recorded how Roman soldiers were allowed to use their "wicked minds in various ways to execute" prisoners captured during a Jewish uprising. This suggests that the method of Jesus' execution may have been decided by legionnaires stationed at Calvary, and not by the state.

"If we put this on the table, and think that the execution of Jesus was the result of the wicked mind of the soldiers at that very point, we can't know how he could have been executed," Samuelsson says. "The executions of that day could have taken a completely different form from ones the day before."

The Swedish scholar isn't sure exactly why the crucifix went on to become the dominant Christian motif. But this symbol only seems to have become fixed in followers' minds long after Jesus' death, as the first T and X shaped crucifixes appear in Christian manuscripts around the 2nd century AD.

Perhaps unsurprisingly, Samuelsson's thesis has caused something of an unheavenly row. While fellow theologians have complimented his highly detailed research, many critics in the blogosphere have claimed that he wants to undermine Christianity. Samuelsson -- who believes that "the man who walked this earth was the Son of God, and that he will return to judge the living and the dead" -- says this accusation is simply "stupid."

"I'm really just a boring, conservative pastor and I start everyday reading the New Testament," he says. "But my suggestion is that we should read the text as it is, not as we think it is."

(Remember) when the angels said, “O Mary, God gives you good news of a word from Him (God), whose name is the Messiah Jesus, son of Mary, revered in this world and the Hereafter, and one of those brought near (to God). He will speak to the people from his cradle and as a man, and he is of the righteous.” She said, “My Lord, how can I have a child when no mortal has touched me?” He said, “So (it will be). God creates what He wills. If He decrees a thing, He says to it only, ‘Be!’ and it is.” (Quran, 3:45-47)

Jesus was born miraculously by the command of God, the same command that had brought Adam into being with neither a father nor a mother. God has said:

The case of Jesus with God is like the case of Adam. He created him from dust, and then He said to him, “Be!” and he came into being. (Quran, 3:59)

During his prophetic mission, Jesus performed many miracles. God tells us that Jesus said:

“I have come to you with a sign from your Lord. I make for you the shape of a bird out of clay, I breathe into it, and it becomes a bird by God’s permission. I heal the blind from birth and the leper. And I bring the dead to life by God’s permission. And I tell you what you eat and what you store in your houses....” (Quran, 3:49)

Muslims believe that Jesus was not crucified. It was the plan of Jesus’ enemies to crucify him, but God saved him and raised him up to Him. And the likeness of Jesus was put over another man. Jesus’ enemies took this man and crucified him, thinking that he was Jesus. God has said:

...They said, “We killed the Messiah Jesus, son of Mary, the messenger of God.” They did not kill him, nor did they crucify him, but the likeness of him was put on another man (and they killed that man)... (Quran, 4:157)

Neither Muhammad nor Jesus came to change the basic doctrine of the belief in one God, brought by earlier prophets, but rather to confirm and renew it.1
