KickOff.com can reveal that Sunderland striker Louis Saha is in the country to conclude a deal with Bidvest Wits.

Saha was spotted at the airport in Johannesburg today, and Sunderland manager Martin O’Neil has already confirmed that there is interest in the striker from South African clubs.

The Black Cats recently partnered with Wits as part of their programme to develop a network of clubs in Africa. The deal was announced in early January by the club’s chief of international development, former Sunderland star Gordon Chisholm, who said the connection would help “as regards players [and] sponsorships”.

“With this arrangement, all the clubs involved will benefit,” Chisholm said earlier in January. “I will be with Bidvest Wits in South Africa later in the month and all these will be geared at fostering the relationship that we are building in Africa.”

Our sources tell us Saha is almost certainly in the country to feel out an agreement with Wits. However, club general manager George Mogotsi insists: “He is just a visitor in the country and he’s got nothing to do with us.”
