I went to a private boarding school in Abuja and it was beautiful. There was no bullying because the management was American and Nigerians trained in America. At a point teachers were not even allowed to tell students to kneel down. The food was good. We ate 5 times a day and good food. (not home quality but good). Ice cream, salads, drinks, yogurts, chicken and many others were normal. The bathrooms were always clean, hot water flowed in harmattan. It wasn't home but it was comfortable. The students were from good homes. I made many many good friends there. The academic life was great. We had the best WAEC result for years. Nice programs and events that I look back now and really appreciate. Although I lost a lot of classmates in a plane crash in 2005, (RIP angels), I loved my boarding school experience. I would love for my children to have an experience like that. 2 Likes |

I went to lumen Chisti international high sch, uromi, edo state, Nigeria. And it was tough at d beginning becuz I waz just 9yrs old. Apart from d dirty environment and heartless seniors, it waz a good place, I learnt a lot of good things. D only problem is I became emotionally detached from my parents, and now I can't even gist with my mum or dad for more than 1min, becuz there's nufin to say. The main thing I leanrt is that ALL Man For Himself and God for us all. |

Kids become more corrupt in boarding school than in non boarding school. They turns to gays and lesbians from boarding schools and if you interview lots of these lesbians girls you will find out that most of them attended boarding schools from where it all started. |

Yes, the LJC ajeburrer sec school alumni are here.lol. But really, your secondary school is one of the best in Nigeria presently. I've seen products of that school & I'm over-impressed. I'm sure less than 10 percent of your classmates are schooling in Nigeria & a good number of those outside are in really good schools. & no offence o, but is we call LJC a boarding house, what do we call the FGCs? jungle house? loool. Yes when i was in the hostel then, we use to have seniors who do terrible things to us, its so annoying, but one question is some of you now parents condeming boarding schools now, werent you the ones maltreating junior students during your time. You think even if you prevent your children from attending boarding school, there wont be pay back? 1 Like |

Independent is the key word when you talk about boarding school. I was there from JSS1-SS3 against my wish in Abuja. but I came to like it so much, except for the bullying.I guess 89% of kids that lived in boarding houses are not shy or timid; although they could be a little boring but the confidence is always there. if there are reasons for those kids to travel abroad, no tears at the airport. even when the parents are crying out rivers, you simply pick your bag like u used to while in boarding school and storm away.no case of home sick. 1 Like |

I personally would like my kids to face some slight hardship in school, not have everything laid out for them. That is not the world they would be pushed out to eventually, especially in Nigeria. That is just my preference. 2 Likes |

coal_coal: I went to a boarding school so did all of my siblings. My wife also went to a boarding school. I am surprised the way most people are talking about boarding schools negatively. Everybody wants to buy a car despite they know it can have accident. My first child is also a female but she needs to go out there and learn how life should be because she is rebelious, fearless, sometimes disobedient but brilliant, curious and enthusiastic. I am planning to find a good private boarding school for her soon as she must go and learn how to be independent, confident and tolerable too. believe me, there are lot of vices in day school as I knew what I did back then in my day public schools with my fellow gangsters but thank God I foud my way back. I believe in how a little sufferness can bring the best of someone in life and my children should know it is a failure to be dependent. 2 Likes |

In an ideal situation, a boarding house holds ffg advantages amongst others; - promote independence which could bring out child's potentials - give a real world scenario/ community setting to a child early-on - help parents monitor progress in an objective manner. Nonetheless, all above will be defeated if there no proper monitoring by the institution you handed your child to |

J12: I was sent to a boarding school because I was a rebel. My parents believed that being very away from home was the best treatment I could get since I could no longer keep contact with my fellow rebellious peers.ur experienc is the same wit mine,i went to a mission boarding school and it realy made me who i am 2day but most boarding schools today are nothing to write home about cos homosexuality is now a norm and children only go there to enjoy the latest and costliest milk and other beverages in town. |
