kulyie: Instead of him to be bothered about how the ugly police college hostel will be renovated to a decent standard of living, fit for normal human beings,he is bothered about the embarassment the press has created for him.mr president please live up to expectation.create solutions please.i even wonder where all the ig's stay when the lower levels are living in places suitable for swines.smh That is the average reaction of most politicians....everything must be view through the fine lens of politics...once it doesn't enhance their political interest..it is seen to be the machinations of their political enemies. that is the sad reality of our existence as a nation. 2 Likes |

The first paragraph of this article is stale and shambolic! I said it once and i'll say it again. I was glad to see that my president is not alof or ignorant to his country. For the fact that he saw something wrong on t.v and acted promptly!!!!!! |

For the fact that he saw something wrong on t.v and acted promptly!!!!!!Don't be deceived, the President cannot claim he is oblivious of how dilapidated and uninhabitable police barracks and formations are. Every Nigerian knows this, so the President having a first hand assessment is a charade in a bid to show face as responsive. The President knows that the police force is underfunded, claiming that heads will roll is a form of buck passing the blame to others 1 Like |

In summary i'll ask a question. Overtime there have been multiple reports of things like this, the government does'nt respond and nothing is done to them. Why do you think the president was so particular about this that he diverted his plane headed for abidjan to lagos to visit this school? |

WHAT FREEDOM OF AUTHORITY! HOW ABOUT FREEDOM OF SPEECH,FREEDOM OF VIEWPOINT TOO? CHANNELS HAD EVERY RIGHT TO DOCUMENT PCI & ENVIRONS EXPOSING HOW NIGERIANS ARE SWINDLED WITH SO MUCH MONEY RELEASED AND YET NOTHING IS DONE NOR MAINTAINED. IT'S HIGH TIME NIGERIANS STAND UP FOR THEIR RIGHTS JOOR! Burger01: @OP, instead of you to ask what happened to the money allocated to PCI you are querying why the president queried Channels TV...and who are you to query my presido... are you happy at the dilapidated situations of the police college.. Call a spade a spade and allow the president his freedom of authority... |

Why do you think the president was so particular about this that he diverted his plane headed for abidjan to lagos to visit this school?Well, he knew the Opposition were going to feast on the matter hence he had to. He has the report of the Presidential Police Reform committee which he constituted and which was submitted in August 2012, yet he hasn't deemed it fit to attend to any of the recommendations in it which includes the welfare of the police force! So much for a serious president |

Or you don't know that monies are actually allocated and disbursed yearly for the fixing of these structure. If you truly want Nigeria to change, you should be calling for the heads of those embezzling the money. But maybe it is about politics for some of you so when a government official embezzles money somewhere in minna, you insult GEJ. . Like someone replied you above, if every Nigerian is aware things are that bad, it wouldn't have been a suprise and the reaction would not have been explosive as it is. |

ifihearam: Honourarium, And does my post suggest that heads mustn't roll or what exactly are u insinuating? Was it not the retardeen that appointed those in the commission who seems not to be reponsive or was it Buhari again that appointed them. Whatever the retardeen deem fit, let him do it as long as sanity goes back to the college. case closed. |

thelastPope: Lostpope, to be honest, u spoke well sha. Thats unlike u. however, let me add that that report had no political undertone whatsoever. its was a cool professional job the channels did and i call upon them to move to all segments of our national life and bring out documentaries like this constantly. they abound everywhere. I wonder what u lot will say if it was SR that publish the story |

thelastPope:Guy, you make GEJ seem like a President held hostage by his subject. If he is unable to call the minister and IGP he appointed to account for monies appropriated, it shows he doesn't have a firm grip on his government. You must be a compulsive liar if you claim you were unaware of the bad state of all police formations and barracks before Channels aired it. |

EVERYTHING ABOUT THAT DOCUMENTARY IS WRONG. LET START BY SAYING THAT THE NIGERIAN POLICE HAS ENDED UP INDITING ITSELF BY EXPOSING THE LEVEL OF CORRUPTION IN THE THAT SECTOR. WAT IS THE NIGERIAN POLICE BEING DOING WITH THEIR CAPITAL BUDGET? IS THE POLICE COLLEGE IKEJA THE ONLY SECURITY INSTITUTE IN NIGERIA? WE HAVE ABOUT FOUR()4 SSS TRAINING SCHOOLS IN NIGERIA WHICH I HV BEEN PRIVILEGED TO VISIT. STATE SERVICE ACADEMY OJO LAGOS HAS A WELL FURNISHED SELF CONTAINED TO TWO OFFICERS, WITH ALL THE AMENITIES PERFECTLY WORKING. WE HAVE STANDARD MILITARY, NAVAL AND AIR FORCE TRAINING COLLEGES IN THIS COUNTRY. WHAT IS WRONG WITH POLICE? SECONDLY, IT IS VERY WRONG OF THE NIGERIAN POLICE TO EXPOSE A CRITICAL SECURITY INFRASTRUCTURE LIKE PCI TO THE WHOLE WORLD. IT GIVES ROOM FOR ESPIONAGE. THE NIGERIA POLICE NEEDS DELIVERANCE PLS. |

You must be a compulsive liar if you claim you were unaware of the bad state of all police formations and barracks before Channels aired it. There is a big difference in saying police formations are in a bad state and you watching police cadets in training eaten like pigs in a pig house. If you say you knew it was as bad as the documentary showed then you will be a big liar! Nigeria as a whole is in a bad state but that doesn't mean everyone has the same picture of how bad it is. You think a child who lives in Ikoyi really pictures police officers eaten from a bucket? Or you just want to generated argument traffic for Seun? Lol |

thelastPope:Even if I concede that the "arrangee" documentary between top police officers and Channels tv exposed the squalid conditions to Nigerians, I am still convinced that the President has a near perfect picture of the bad state of police formations and barracks prior to this documentary because series of committees, reports and recommendations on enhancing the welfare of the police are on his table without been attended to! |

And you think those reports details how they have no beds and sleep on the floor? You seem to forget that there is money allocated for these centers yearly. The reports on his table are mostly reports detailing how to take the police to international standards with high tech gadgets and world class training centers not that the police cadets currently have no bed to sleep on or that they eat from buckets. They can't put that in the reports because there is money allocated for that yearly. Do you see the airforce or Navy traning centers looking like that? The documentary is actually a true picture of the police institution as a whole. Nigerian governors and president are to some extent hostages to their subordinates. Not to say that is an excuse not to perform but the fact is, we have a completely rotten society. There was an incident in Alimosho LGA before the 2011 election. The ACN campaign train were stopped by the youths of one street that was in a terrible shape. In the whole confrontation, they decided to check if government had earmarked the street for repairs so as to convince the residence that they will be attended to. Lo and behold, the check revealed that the government on paper have fixed the street 3 times. All paid for! That is how the country is as sad as that sounds. So yes, the surordinates can sometimes hold the leaders hostage and they will never know what is going on. Am not saying that it is an excuse not to perform. That is why I stressed that the channels TV move is the kind of expose we need in Nigeria. |

Exactly. What is wrong with the police? Other forces and security agencies seem to maintain their barracks and training facilities to a very reasonable extent. The police has a very bad organizational culture. Massive sacking and sanctions need to be undertaken to shock the officers into a change of attitude. Also, a lot of the administrative aspects should be outsourced to private companies. |

ypzilanti:You can't see it was the military that killed the Nigerian Police Force? They saw them as a rival organization and smothered them by under-funding. But then the entire force had always needed overhauling - from training methods to salaries, and to qualifications for employment. |

thelastPope: Shebi you saw Fashola doing inspection since last week? As a leader, when you budget monies, you should inspect to make sure it has been put to good use. My former MD used to pay surprise visits to his branches all the time- That is administration. Granted that a President cannot be at all places at all times, but he should have a team that does these things for him. All those advisers and special advisers; assistants and special assistants...what are they paid for? Every efficient executive has spies in the rank and file that relay information (amebos). |

logica: You can't see it was the military that killed the Nigerian Police Force? They saw them as a rival organization and smothered them by under-funding. But then the entire force had always needed overhauling - from training methods to salaries, and to qualifications for employment. I agree. Even the culture of having barracks for police officers is the legacy of the colonial masters for quelling riots. Police is supposed to live among the people who they guard. That said, we have had a democracy for over a decade, the force needs overhauling and reorientation. So many reports have been drafted, and the submissions are lying and gathering dust in Aso Rock. GEJ himself was a member of one of the committees under Yaradua. |

thelastPope:Its quite possible the President wasn't aware to the extent of what was uncovered in the documentary but he knows of the never-ending maladministration and corruption bedevilling the force. If he claims he is not aware of the dilapidated buildings inhabiting police officers nationwide, then he has lost touch with those he preside. The Gambo and the other civil society report submitted by Ayo Obe detailed most of what Channels reported. Well, let us hope he does something about it now! |

Is it not hypocritical to accuse your police of looting when you know that your ministers and colleagues are looting much more?. Also that the over-inflated salaries of the politicians leaves little money to budget sufficiently for the police and other essential services. |
Re: Heads May Roll After Jonathan’s Police College Visit by Nobody: 6:03pm On Jan 21, 2013 |
Although I have very little faith in the President and that anything will change, I give him a plus mark for at least making the visit and seeing for himself how bad things have gotten. I keep hoping that one day this man would grow a backbone and do what is right - I still feel that he is still being controlled by one or both of his evil godfathers -Obj and IBB. |
