And The SAG TV Awards Should Go To... by SATMAN(m): 2:16am On Jan 25, 2013 |
Each year the performers that bring us some of the best films and series are honoured and recognised for their contributions at the 19th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards (SAG Awards). Catch the live telecast on Monday 28 January at 2am WAT on M-Net Movies Premiere. The star-studded presenter lineup for the prestigious event include: Bradley Cooper, Viola Davis, Anne Hathaway, Hugh Jackman, Jennifer Lawrence, Justin Timberlake and Sigourney Weaver. So if you’re planning your upcoming viewing, here’s a list of category nominations and broadcast times of some of the hottest shows on DStv: Outstanding performance by an ensemble in a drama series Boardwalk Empire Breaking Bad Downton Abbey Homeland Mad Men We think the award should go to: Downton Abbey with Maggie Smith and Hugh Bonneville alone delivering Stellar performances in the hit drama series. Season three will be making its way to our screens in early 2013 on BBC Entertainment. Watch this space for more information. Outstanding Performance by an ensemble in a comedy series 30 Rock (season seven will start on 30 July at 7pm WAT on M-Net Series) The Big Bang Theory (Wednesday 30 January at 8:30pm WAT on M-Net) Glee (season four kicks off on 11 April at 7pm WAT on M-Net Series) Modern Family Nurse Jackie The Office (Tuesday 29 January at 7pm WAT on M-Net Series) We think the award should go to: The goofy guys and gals from The Big Bang Theory as their meandering misfortunes more often than not result in aggravating one another (but mostly the highly strung obsessive compulsive Sheldon). Catch The Big Bang Theory on Wednesday 30 January at 8:30pm WAT on M-Net. Outstanding Performance by a male actor in a drama series Steve Buscemi in Boardwalk Empire as Enoch “Nucky” Thompson Bryan Cranston in Breaking Bad as Walter White Jeff Daniels in The Newsroom as Will Mcavoy Jon Hamm in Mad Men as Don Draper Damian Lewis in Homeland as Nicholas Brody We think the award should go to: Steve Buscemi for his evil-soaked character Nucky in Boardwalk Empire. Now this is one role in which Buscemi uses his odd looks to his advantage. Outstanding performance by a female actor in a drama series: Claire Danes in Homeland as Carrie Mathison Michelle Dockery in Downton Abbey as Lady Mary Crawley Jessica Lange in American Horror Story: Asylum as Sister Jude Julianna Margulies in The Good Wife as Alicia Florrick (Monday 28 January at 9:30pm WAT) Maggie Smith in Downton Abbey as Violet, Dowager Countess of Grantham We think the award should go to: Julianna Margulies for her portrayal as the tough-as-nails attorney Alicia Florrick. Outstanding performance by a male actor in a comedy series: Alec Baldwin in 30 Rock as Jack Donaghy Ty Burrell in Modern Family as Phil Dunphy Louis CK in Louie as Louie (Thursday 31 January at 12:30am) Jim Parsons in The Big Bang Theory as Sheldon Cooper Eric Stonestreet in Modern Family as Cameron Tucker We think the award should go to: Eric Stonestreet for his incredibly funny portrayal of gay dad Cameron in Modern Family. His zest for life and ability or lack thereof to do almost anything he sets his mind to is hilarious. Outstanding performance by a female actor in a comedy series: Edie Falco in Nurse Jackie as Jackie Peyton Tina Fey in 30 Rock as Liz Lemon Amy Poehler in Parks and Recreation (Season five hits our screens on 20 April at 18:30 on M-Net Series) as Leslie Knope Sofia Vergara in Modern Family as Gloria Delgado-Pritchett Betty White in Hot in Cleveland (Friday 25 January at 7:30pm WAT on M-Net) as Elka Ostrovsky We think the award should go to: Non other than the queen of entertainment herself, Betty White for her spritely, sharp tongued, tracksuit clad character as landlord Elka . The star-studded evening will also pay tribute to veteran actor, Dick Van Dyke, who is the recipient of the SAG 49th Life Achievement Award. What actors and shows do you think deserve to win top honours at the Screen Actors’ Guild awards? Let us know! Don’t miss the rebroadcast of the SAG Awards on Monday, 28 January at 7:30pm WAT on M-Net Movies Premiere and on Saturday, 2 February at 5pm WAT on M-Net Movies Stars.
