Africa no doubt has been at the center of attraction for a while now, from the uprising in Libya, to the drought in the Horn of Africa, couple with petty crimes, internal terrorism and more importantly issues of political, economical and infrastructural deficiencies ravaging the land. Despite all this, Nature has blessed Africa with enormous talents and also market to match, from the war ravaged to a simile peaceful area in Africa.

Soccer in Africa is the most “followed” sport. In Nigeria alone, soccer is fast becoming Opium of the people.
Government alone controlled almost 100% funding of this sport. It is obvious that Government subventions are not enough which has always necessitated the call for private sector involvement. Though the later participation has always been on-and-off in recent times, the basic reason is their loss of confidence in the Administration in the land due to myopicness and the corrupt tendencies of these Administrators. Other stakeholders too seem to have lost confidence in these administrators. Though, the issue might not be that bad as it sound, but it is definitely hampering “genuine” Soccer development in the land.

Still on Nigeria, the National Soccer league, comprising of 20 clubs with more than $20million equivalently changing hand in every soccer season, while 98.5% of the aforementioned fund is unaccounted for. That is why it is very easy to compromise the local match officials and maybe, fix matches with impunity. The resultant effect is a badly organized and monitored soccer league. More so the local Soccer league is just the solution to all the soccer woes the country has been contending with for a while now. Systemic Soccer development can only be achieved if that league and every other index are in place.

Yours truly, has been at the vanguard, advocating for the local soccer authority to “Instutionalize the System of Accountability”: in which every cash-flow In the league are effectively monitored by an appointed, credible, and neutral “watch-dog” that is empowered to investigate, recover any misappropriated funds and prosecute any erring administrators, official, and even personnel’s. This is a proven way to raise confidence by the various stakeholders and more importantly the Sponsors/investors in such a way that for every cent they (sponsors) invested is judiciously expended in order to get value for their investments.
