A fire swept through a crowded nightclub in southern Brazil early today Sunday January 27th, killing at least 245 people (and still counting) and leaving hundreds injured, police and firefighters told local media.

Fire broke out at popular night club, Kiss Club, in the city of Santa Maria, while a band was performing. There were over a 1000 people at the club when fire started at around 2 a.m. A stampede ensued immediately as party goers pushed and shoved each other to escape.

The cause of the fire is not yet known, officials said. A police spokesman told a radio station that a truck carrying 70 bodies arrived at the Municipal Sports Center, which they used as an improvised morgue.


"Sad Sunday", the governor of the southern state of Rio Grande do Sul tweeted. He said all possible action was being taken and that he would be in the city later in the day.

There are many clubs with capacities two thousand highly stned and drunks all the west.

Fire safety and avacuation should be paramount in those kind of places,which were lacking in the unfortunate club with just one exit.

What's this thing about having only 1 exit, knowing they may have 1000 to 2000 people in there? It's a sad shame these people went to party and this happened.

All types of fireworks or machines that spew sparks should be banned from any indoor uses. I feel sad for the families and friends who lost loved ones because of stupidity. Unreal.

So according to reports then Brazilian Night club fire that killed 245 people was overcrowded by over a 1,000 people. An estimated 2000 people were in a club designed to contain 1000 peeps.

Important lesson here is to avoid crowded places, no matter the nature of the place. whether na crusade, football stadium, or concert. Once there is a stampede, your survival is in the hands of God, not yours...........
