Bamanga Tukur...I met this man in the early 90s of Babangida regime when he was a presidential aspirant of the defunct National Republican Convention,NRC. He drove with his driver in a brand new 504 station wagon and almost ran us over (kids then) playing soccer at the early hour of the night(10pm)in ogoja, cross river state. We usually play football at night when the street light is on at odd hours.

He ordered his driver to stop the car and immediately stepped down to scold us to go to bed. As soon as he alights, I caught a glimpse of his big tummy and shouted Alhaji Bamanga Tukur! You need to see the bewilderment on his face as he walked to me and snorted, 'young man, how did you know I am Tukur?' I took him across the road where I pasted all the presidential aspirants on the wall and showed him his poster. He gigged,smiled and Pat me on the head and said, 'yes, I am tukur and you are such a bright boy, where are your parents? Go back to bed.
He mounted his car and zoom off
...Though he had his presidential campaign the following day at Ogoja but it really amazing what could have brought him out into that small town at that hour all by himself with no escorts nor orderly
