Tithes And Offerings by OLAADEGBU(m): 11:49am On Feb 08, 2013
Tithes and Offerings
February 6, 2013.

"Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house, and prove me now herewith, saith the LORD of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it" (Malachi 3:10).

Today there is much talk of financial security. The biblical formula in today’s verse, given to Israel, but applied to all, begins with a scathing indictment. "Will a man rob God? Yet ye have robbed me. But ye say, Wherein have we robbed thee? In tithes and offerings" (v. 8 ). What a terrible thing, to rob God. The result of their thievery, in God’s eyes: "Ye are cursed with a curse" (v. 9), such that their financial state was much worse than it would have been had they been obedient. This teaching and promise has not been rescinded (Luke 6:38; 1 Corinthians 16:2; etc.).

God’s charge to us as given in today’s verse is in three steps. First, we are told to obey; i.e., "bring ye." This cannot be considered an option. Secondly, God proposes a test. "Prove me," He says, give and see if He lives up to His promises. Thirdly, trust His promise to meet our needs.

Note that His promise is also threefold. It abundantly covers present needs, for He promises to "pour you out a blessing" unmeasurable in quality or quantity. Likewise, it covers the threat of future loss. "And I will rebuke the devourer for your sakes, and he shall not destroy the fruits of your ground; neither shall your vine cast her fruit before the time in the field" (v. 11). Most precious is His promise to reward obedience and trust with a special relationship: "All nations shall call you blessed: for ye shall be a delightsome land" (v. 12).

Thus we see that with less than 100 percent of our income at our disposal, we will have greater financial security than if we had kept it all to ourselves, thereby robbing God. JDM

^ Many Christians believes that passage of John you quoted was referring to the devil as the thief BUT ALAS, You're RIGHT - It was talking about FALSE TEACHERS. Well, For record purpose, I LOVE DR. HENRY MORRIS and also have his study Bible. He is sure a good bible teacher no doubt BUT like the Bereans, I have learned to subject EVERY BIBLE TEACHERS to SOUND DOCTRINE. I have learned to examine what is taught if it is truth hence I will swallow anything poison.

On this subject of tithe and offering, Dr. Morris and brother Ola are missing it and I can subject them both to just two questions in order to test the truth of the doctrine of tithes and offerings. I hope our brother Ola will stay with his own thread when asked to explain the reasons for which he believes tithe and offering still apply to Christians today because I have just two simple questions that will nail this subject of tithe and offerings. Perhaps he will be set free from the tithe captives as well.

@ Brother Ola, Can I ask just two questions please please. If it's more that two questions, please, do not answer the third one. Lemme know when you're ready sir. I don't want to start putting this article under the NT scriptural examination line-by-line. Thank you bro.

That curse is far bigger than you think! In Mark 10:17-31, Jesus told the rich man to give away all of his belongings! Man has no right to be on the Earth at all, as man has failed the Lord allready (the instant Adam and Eve ate the forbidden fruit in the Garden of Eden), and has proven himself again and again as a complete moral failure in the eyes of the Lord! So in the New Testament, the "tithe" is really all of your income and posessions!

Haa! You are suggesting that they should give their all when they are already straining at a mere 10%? The moment they decide to give their all is the day they give their lives to the Lord. Some call Jesus their Saviour but He would not be allowed to be their Lord. A servant cannot say No, Lord!

"Each man should give what he has decided in his heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver" - 2 Corinthians 9:7

"Tell the Israelites to bring me an offering. You are to receive the offering for me from each man whose heart prompts him to give." - Exodus 25:2

" For if the willingness is there, the gift is acceptable according to what one has, not according to what he does not have." - 2 Corinthians 8:12

" But I did not want to do anything without your consent, so that any favor you do will be spontaneous and not forced." - Philemon 1:14

^^^

I doubt if false teachers and their followers will interpret the beautiful scriptures above correctly , perhaps they might twist them to their own destruction.

It is a known fact that people give more and cheerfully so when there is no coercion involved.

God wants sincererity , if we give 1% fine, 100% fine, even 0.0001% is okay, if it is done cheerfully , this is what God prefers.

In fact God will accept 1% from a non-grudging heart than 100% from a grudging heart.

Now, if we quickly read 2 Corinthians 8:12 as quoted above, Paul explicitly explains to the Corinthians to give according to what they have and not what they do not have.

Yet , charlatans and their followers force widows, orphans and the poor to tithe 10% of their meager income plus offerings on top, when it is well known that this is to the detriment of their feeding and shelter.

Shame on them.

Okay. I OPENLY apologize for the wrong information about the writer of the article but it was from Dr. Henry Morris' same website right? I must have MISplaced one for the other. That's fine. My apology.

OLAADEGBU:

Tithes and offerings are for the children of Israel and you don't have pay it unless you are saying that you are a child of Abraham, are you?

All those who are of FAITH are the seed of Abraham. How? There are TWO kinds of 'SEED (singular) OF ABRAHAM' - There's the natural seed which are the Jews. There's the seed of Abraham who are BY FAITH THROUGH CHRIST, That's the Spiritual, not the NATURAL, like the Jews. The SPIRITUAL seed is what is promised to Abraham that IN THY SEED SHALL ALL THE FAMILY OF THE EARTH BE BLESSED AND THAT SEED IS CHRIST IN WHICH ISAAC WAS A SHADOW AND TYPE. So, when you talk of seed of Abraham, you also have to be specific. Are you a JEWS? Let us know so we can know how we address you henceforth. Even to the natural seed of Abraham, the Jews, tithe and offerings are NO MORE. IT HAS ENDED, CANCELED AND ABOLISHED.

OLAADEGBU:

I can't remember saying I want to question the word of God. I said I want to ask YOU just two questions. If you had spoken the word of God and I don't understand, CAN'T I ASK YOU QUESTION SO YOU CAN EXPLAIN FOR CLARITY PURPOSE? Again my brother, CAN I ASK YOU JUST TWO QUESTIONS FOR CLARITY PURPOSE? YOU MUST BE READY TO ANSWER THE REASON FOR WHICH YOU BELIEVE.

King James 2000 Bible
But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asks you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear: - 1 Peter 3:15

If you are saying this because of 10% what would you have said to Jesus who commended the widow for giving all? Would you still say that it was "to the detriment of her feeding and shelter"?

" . . . . Verily I say unto you, That this poor widow hath cast into the treasury: For all they did cast in of their abundance; but she of her want did cast in all that she had, even all her living" (Mark 12:42-43).

You can see with Jesus' reaction to this poor widow's act of faith that God measures our giving by our motives and not by the amount we give or that we have remaining. It takes faith to give your all and that is what brings the blessing.

What bible do you read !

You should learn from the example of the Macedonians who first of all give their ownselves to the Lord and in their deep poverty gave with joy to the ministry. Have you ever heard of Christian stewardship?

"And this they did, not as we hoped, but first gave their own selves to the Lord, and unto us by the will of God. Insomuch that we desired Titus, that he had begun, so he would also finish in you the same grace also" (2 Corinthians 8:5-6).

They gave willingly as many do today, under no compulsion or obligation, it was all out of love.

By the way , they did not give money but themselves , their time and resources for the work of GOD. You seem to see $$$ in this verse when it is not there, and even if it was , they gave cheerfully not under some manmade lie called tithe .

Away with the LIE of Malachi 3:9.
