Please which is Better of the two courses?? BSc. Medical Laboratory Science or Bsc. Chemistry.I need reasons to back up your answers,and also Job opportunities that await graduates of both courses. Thanks and God Bless.

Medical laboratory science is obviously the better option. Its all about clinical diagnostics of diseases. Medical lab science as a field of study comprises of microbiology, haematology, immunology, chemical pathology (otherwise known as medical biochemistry) and histopathology. Its supposed to be involve 4yr course work + 1yr compulsory internship before graduation.
As for job opportunities, you don't have much to worry about because, just like medical doctors, med lab scientists are in constant demand. You'll work in a hospital or a public health laboratory or a diagnostic center. Check www.mlscn.gov.ng for more info

MLS is beta by far Tizzie.are u applying again?i followed ur posts on unilag admissn thread last year and i wish u best of luck dis time around.i'll advice u choose ui dis time because ui wil be admittin into d new dept dis year.d course is a new 5yr course in college of medicine ui and no one has filled it yet because it's stil unpopular.a medical lab scientist are very few in d country which makes d few available ones to work in d federal medical centers or teachin hospital.ur job wit huge salary awaits u as a ML scientist.comparin chemistry with mls is an embarrassment to mls.av seen alot of ui chemistry graduates dat are workin as teachers in 2ndary schls here in ib.do u knw hw much u'll be earnin durin ur internship as a mls?mls is beta by far.d tip to study it in ui is for u to hav 1 o.level sittin,score 9s mark in jamb and fil awaitin result if u knw u dont hav distinctns in ur o.level.are u comparin mls wit chem?pls stop kiddin

My dear chemistry is terrible! The problem is the economy, the industries that employ graduates in that field are relatively few and difficult to get into. Please go for medical lab science its far better than chemistry

I cant believe some people can berate Chemistry as low as this. Chemistry is not about being a chemist alone. It ranges in all fields from Medical to Meteorology to the oil industry.

yes,mls is a new course in ui and u can take d advantage.u can google out 2012/2013 ui admissn list and u'll see there was nothin like dat as at last year

chemistry is gud but where are d jobs?chemists work in companies like oil,pharmaceutical,cement but where are d vacancies?pls no one is sayin chemistry is bad buh it becomes worst wen compares wit MLS especially in dis country.@tizzie,u can go for chemistry if u dont mind workin as a teacher after schl and u can also be lucky to get a job in afformentiond companies but d chance is slim.most oil companies wil even prefer to employ a chemical engineer gan while 80% of d workers in phamaceutical companies are pharmacists,pharmacologists,microbiologists etc
