FEBRUARY 26, 2013 BY DAYO OKETOLA LEAVE A COMMENT The Federal Government has created a national single window portal that will ensure that all government information is domiciled in one place. It will provide a comprehensive online platform for over 400 Ministries, Departments, and Agencies of government currently running substandard websites. Minister of Communications Technology, Mrs. Omobola Jonhson, said this at the social media week in Lagos, entitled, ‘Showcase: Technology in Governance’. A statement on Monday quoted the minister as saying that the primary objective of deploying a national portal was to create a single point of entry for Nigerians to access government’s information and services online. The portal, according to her, is an initiative of the ministry in collaboration with the Ministry of Information. The national portal, she said, would be unveiled in March and it would showcase all the MDAs. This would enable Nigerians to view and engage any desired agency of government at the click of a button, she added. The ministry has already designed new standardised and secure web templates and guidelines that conform to global web and security standards for MDAs to adopt, in the redesign of their websites before the inauguration. As such, all MDAs of government would be mandated to migrate before December 2014 to the new security and design standards, the statement said. Johnson also disclosed that a government call centre with a vanity number ‘’0700 CALL GOV’’ would be inaugurated in April. “The call centre will facilitate enquiries, complaints/ problem resolution, where possible. It will help to build a knowledge-management database and help support Servicom desks,” the statement said. The portal, according to Johnson, currently has 20 processes; and by 2015, 250 processes of government would have been uploaded online. “Twenty simple citizen-facing processes of the Ministries of Communication Technology, Education, Health, Agriculture and Trade and Investment have already been automated on the portal for the benefit of Nigerians,” she added.www.punchng.com/business/technology/fg-creates-single-online-portal-for-mdas/ |
