I thank my parents for how I was raised. As at secondary school, I had university friends who were cultists. I can never forget the day I was in a friends room on campus whe a gunshot went off. My friend stood up, opened his ceiling, brought out 9 millimetre pistol and poked his head put of the room door to see what was happening. Meanwhile, I had laid as flat as I could on the ground and almost peed my pants. It seemed cool at the time, but the longer I hung out with them, the less attractive it became to me. When I left Nigeria, the pressure to belong was so high on me. And I would have been marked instantly because my friends cut across rival gangs and joining one would have instantly made me enemies with my other friends for no good reason. I am so glad I left. I would have made it through without joining, but it would have been very very tough.

Funny thing is when i moved to Ghana, I saw the rise of cultism firsthand. I knew some of them that transferred in like I did and I saw them set up shop. I saw them recruit ignorant little rich kids into the cults. I knew that these new recruits were illegal as their initiation didn't follow code. I was there whe the first altercation that led to the first cult shooting in Ghana went down, I knew all the participants on the shooting first hand even from Nigeria. I saw things that sent shivers down my spine. I could even call names. I even knew the kid who was purchasing the guns for them on campus.. Many kids had no idea how close they came to being killed in Ghana. Truth be told, cultism is for the weak and insecure. You don't need a gun or a gang to show your strength.

Simply put, Parents need to impart certain values and self confidence in their kids.

Wisdom, self confidence and street smarts were what kept me away from joining a cult in my life. Even after graduation from school, some of my friends who are pirates tried to get me in. I did my research on them, learnt their ways, but never joined because I just couldnt see myself as one of them despite the fact that they are a non violent confraternity of graduates.[/b]

He was most likely a cult member.

This hit was definitely carried out by a rival gang as retribution for a sin he must have committed in the past.

I am surprised that he wasn't packing a gun himself as most marked men do.

Final year cult members who have a history are more likely to be killed.


Reminds me of a case in Rivers State years back when a final year student was killed immediately after he finished his defence. He had anticipated it and had stationed his crew around the hall, but the guys who came for him where hellbent on closing his file that day.. Got hit in the leg with a pump action and then was slowly and painstakingly hacked to pieces.
