Currently Section 77(2) and 117(2) of the Electoral Act authorizes only Nigerians resident in Nigeria to vote for the candidates/parties of their choice in general elections.
However, sometime in October 2012, some chieftains of the PDP and APC (then ACN and CPC) publicly backed the idea to allow Nigerians resident outside Nigeria, to vote in Nigerian elections.

As for me, I'm in favour of allowing Nigerians resident abroad to vote because it gives them a sense of belonging, and ensures that indeed, every Nigerian would have the right to vote.

To achieve that feat, there's need to enhance our voting system, the present system of balloting constitute a factor that will hinder such idea. Electronic voting system should be employed. However, with the current state of power & the nonchalant attitude of the leaders, sorry I meant to say RULERS toward info. Tech, that quest wii be fruitless.

@emmysenior: You've raised some valid points. I think INEC can collaborate with Nigerian embassies abroad; in such a way that guarantees the integrity of the vote.
For instance, Nigerians resident in Europe and America could request ballots for the Presidential election. Thereafter, when the voter has made his/her choice, he would mail the ballot to the embassy; which will in turn, send the ballots back to Abuja.

This procedure could also be replicated in other countries that have functional mail delivery systems. Of course, there should be a deadline as to when the Nigerian embassies should return the votes cast (ballots) to Abuja.
