Please do not blame the sultan for his recent statements about the insurgency in the north. If it was your people tht was being killed daily and the govt seems to be unable to solve the problem. Nobody ever uses machine guns and RPGs to bring down planes. Maybe in WWII it worked but not in this day and age.

I suggest you do a little more reading. At low attitudes, especially on approach or rotation, AA guns like the ZSU-24 that's in surplus supply can easily bring down a wide-body aircraft. Same with RPGs (especially helicopters). The Americans have lost a number of fixed-wing and rotary aircraft to both AA flak and rpgs from the Vietnam war to the 2nd Gulf war and the Iraqi insurgency that followed. The Nigerian Airforce also lost an Alphajet to AA fire during a bombing sortie during the Sierre Leonean civil war.
