A modern Nigerian wife is not like the wives of those days. Who are usually seen tying wrapper, covering their hair with scarf and wearing covered blouses whenever they are indoors. And their routine is usually the same thing from week to week. Like going to the market, visiting friends in the neighborhood, going to church, and traveling to the village with their family from time to time. There was nothing like going to cinema houses, shopping, taking their kids to the beach, hanging out with family friends, or going to watch shows or concerts. Most of them were full time housewives, without salaries. They were loyal, dedicated and committed to their marriage. And hardly 'joked' with their husband or his well-being. Unlike the wives of today, whom I call them modern wives. Sophisticated women, and women of class. The modern wife is usually seen wearing different types of weave-on on her head every week, and with nice sexy tops and leggings (cos that's what's in vogue now) to go with it. She looks sweet and lovely all the time (even when going to bed). Telling whosoever cares to know that she's looking good and sexy for her husband. And unlike those days, when most women would trek to see a friend in the next street, or take a bus to the market. Our modern wife would prefer to use her car, even if the friend is staying just down the street. And going to the market is also an opportunity for her to cruise around in her SUV. She knows how to pamper herself very well. Check her out from her hair to her toes, she smells and looks good. And a modern wife hardly watch our local channels but foreign stations. As she follows all the TV series on Mnet, glows each time she sees Kim Kardashian on E, shouts whenever she's watching Big Brother Africa, and doesn't like to be distracted whenever she's glued to her Africa Magic on DSTV.
And some of them have cliques. Young wives of same class, style and traits. Who visit each other, shares secrets atimes, and also gossip about this and that. Being graduates and exposed, they know their rights. And don't fail to make their hubby realize how important they are. Some of them even have tattoos on their body, have a wardrobe filled with all sorts of sexy and designer attires. And most of them like to eat out, or eat 'microwaved' meals. Most times, you see them dressed either in trousers, jeans or leggings. Hardly will you see them tie wrapper or wear skirts like the wives of those days. Except when going to Church or attending an event. And if you see the way they walk. They catwalk like models, armed with their fanciful handbags, sunshades, ipads, blackberry phones and with their car keys to match. Ever ready and good to go!
