Lately I have been wondering on the word 'ex' and perhaps how loose its being used, or not.

Here goes, When he/she refers to someone as an 'ex', does this mean:

one which you had a romantic relationship & intimacy with?

One which you had a romantic relationship but no intimacy with?

Note that, in the second case you had planned to do the intimate thing but something came up which led to an involuntary break up from both part.
E g: pursuit of career, relocation, no time, e.t.c

If the case, was number two, is it appropriate to refer to that person as an 'ex'?. Or is it a case of 'pending' as opposed to the status of an 'ex'?

Would like your opinion and view to this issue, that might have a gender twist

First topic on this section though, feels like being transgendered

you dont have to be intimate with someone for it to be a relationship and not all relationships have to involve s.ex to be considered romantic.

BOTH.

You can be in a romantic r-ship with someone without s'ex. If you break up they'll still be your ex, although there was no s'ex.
