Michaeljones36: A private jet costs $40 million and up.

A plane ticket costs MAXIMUM of $3,000 anywhere on the planet.

Let's do the math.

13,333 plane tickets (at $3000 per ticket) could be bought for the price of one $40 million dollar private jet.

A 40 million private jet can only fly with about 20 people in it. Just so you know - those big planes you fly internationally on cost $300 million and up.

20 people sharing 13,333 plane tickets is 666 flights each.

If those 20 people make more than 666 flights (at the maximum rate of $3,000 per ticket), then it would make sense to buy a private plane.

Lamido said they only make 20 - 30 trips per year. If they make 30 trips (60 flights round trip), then the plane would take 10 YEARS to pay itself off. Let's also remember that 90% of plane tickets are les than $3000, so in reality in would take about 20 years for the plane to pay for itself.

Planes also cost money in the form of fuel, landing fees, maintenance, pilot salary, flight attendant salary, etc. This costs about 1 million a year.

This means the plane will NEVER pay for itself. It will always be cheaper for the supporters club to fly by themselves, even if they paid $5,000 for each ticket.

You decide.

Things do not have to always make economic sense. We are talking about comfort and safety here.

There are two examples of such peeps. Da bull (don't know his present status accurately) and Mike Adenuga. I don't think it wise that the former did what he didn't need to do, the latter is understandable.
I can assure you that Da Bull made a good decision, He is now being talked about as someone who owned a jet. That, alone is something to remember. We are not feeding him now, are we ? If not, he is not complaining, he is more comfortable than most of his critics. Da Bull's Private Jet ownership will always be talked about. Life is but a fleeting moment, if you have opportunity, I will say, "ENJOY".

EVERYTHING has to make some sort of economic sense. You have to attach cost to whatever plan you're cooking up.

The president of the supporters' club probably didn't think before opening his mouth. How many National Team Supporters Clubs have such private jets? How many football clubs have private jet? That's because it's not economically viable!

The cost implication is enormous!

Why do Nigerians lie so much if supporter should own a jet won't the players use that as reason to blackmail dundee Jona to buy for them too?

Abi o? Dis ladipo guy couldn't even bother to take his time to come out with a well thought out lie. 30 matches a year?! And what size would this jet be? How many trips will the pilot have to make to get 300 supporters to Brazil for instance? How many days will that take? If the f.ool wants to enjoy the luxuries and privileges of a private jet, then he should go and work hard and make money instead of trying to leech off supporters club!

Nonsense angry angry angry

Why do you think countries like Russia, Qatar, England, France, Germany etc don't have private planes flying their supporters around? Because they can't afford it?

A lot of people are commenting without asking critical questions!! A private executive plane that cost any where between $40 - $50million can only sit about 19 people? Now the question is how many people are going to be on the jet per trip. How many supporters do you we have? I thought they were in 100s. If they are in 100s we need a Boeing carrier...What is the evidence that it will save cost....This is another evidence why Nigeria is not moving forward, individuals are just engulfed by greed and short sightedness. PRIVATE JET MY FOOT!!!MCHEEWWW!

G4 jet only goes for 20-25 million if it is almost 10 years old.
A G650 costs $65 million. There is no such thing as a G6.

For the 737, you are talking about the price for the 'aircraft'.

When you buy a commercial plane the body is all you get for $73 million. Everything on the inside of the plane costs extra, unless you are buying used.

joseph1013:

“The supporters club is an outfit that travels all the time with the country’s national teams, and you can imagine a situation where about 300 members are travelling for a competition,” Ladipo told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).

“It involves a lot of money when we embark on such trips 20 to 30 times in a year, so we thought it wise to lease a plane that will be on ground to be taking us on our various trips.”

“We are not just going to keep it there for only our trips, because we are aware of other expenses like the parking charges and so on,” he added.

“If we are able to get it, we will equally use it to carry passengers; it is only when we need it that we will demand for it to take us on our trips,’’

just a(1) plane is what they want to carry '300' people with?. This guys are nuts (maybe they think a plane is a train). I think what they need is a molue

True. That is the same name that has been banded for many years. Do they not have fresh ideas? What manner of supporters club without new elections and new leaders? Why all the sit tight? And why wont he be thinking of a private jet? he should get one for his wife too (in the name of acquiring one for the female wing of supporters' club).
Re: Nigeria’s Supporters Club To Acquire A Private Jet – Rafiu Ladipo by naptu2: 9:09am On Mar 20, 2013
1) Daniel Amokachi did not buy a private jet. He bought a light plane (he is a qualified pilot).

2) I can quite well believe that the supporters club makes 30 trips in a year (to support the Super Eagles, Dream Team, Flying Eagles, Golden Eaglets, Super Falcons, Falconets, Flamingos, Super Sand Eagles, National Futsal team and clubsides competing in continental competitions).

3) The Nigerian Football and Other Sports Supporters' Club is free to buy a private jet as long as the members vote in support of it. It is a private entity and funding comes from members' contribution and sponsorship (they have a sponsorship deal with Glo). However, I would have thought that buying into a private jet sharing scheme would have been a better option.
Re: Nigeria’s Supporters Club To Acquire A Private Jet – Rafiu Ladipo by naptu2: 9:18am On Mar 20, 2013
Oh and (4) Dr Rafiu Ladipo was President of the Nigerian Football and Other Sports Supporters' Club for a long time, from the 1980s to the 1990s. He was removed in the 90s (I can't exactly remember if he lost an election or if he reached the maximum term limit). Another guy became president (Gosh! I've forgotten his name).

However, in recognition of Dr Ladipo's services to the club and in order to placate some members of the club, Dr Ladipo was made President-General of the club (an honorary position). The patrons of the club are usually The President of Nigeria and their biggest benefactor (in the 1980s/90s it was Chief MKO Abiola. At the moment it's Dr Mike Adenuga).

Wouldn't it be a better idea if one aircraft big enough to accommodate such amount of people be bought and reserved for the entire ministry of sport. This will bring the entire cost cutting idea to benefit the various sport departments and the nation as a whole.

Why the need to fly 300 persons as supporters when ever their is a match involving nigeria. Why not liase with the different nigerian commissions and embassies around the world to have a nigerian fan base in their host country? So as to reduce the cost of transportation. Can't these people think outside the box

The supporters' club is a private entity (it is not an MDA of government). It is funded by dues and donations by financial members. Would you be happy to pay dues and donate to the club and still not travel with them to international football matches?

However, the club does have branches/chapters in various countries around the world.
