Power fluctuations in the
chambers of the of House of
Representatives stalled its
proceedings on Wednesday.
The development made the
Speaker, Mr. Aminu Tambuwal,
to wind down the sitting of the
House, deferring proceedings
till Thursday (today).
Lawmakers were considering
the report on a bill for an Act to
Repeal the National Health
Insurance Scheme Act, No.35 of
1999 when they witnessed
intermittent power cuts.
The bill was in the Committee
of the Whole for clause-by-
cluase consideration after the
Committee on Health headed by
Mr. Ndudi Elumelu had worked
on it.
The power fluctuations shut
down the audio and video
systems in the chamber,
making the recording of the
proceedings impossible.
But, before the power cuts
began, the House had passed a
resolution asking the National
Emergency Management
Agency to assist the victims of
Friday’s rainstorm in Edo State.
The member representing
Owan Federal Constituency of
the state, Mr. Pally Iriase,
reported to the House that the
rainstorm destroyed 132
houses.
He added that power supply to
the constituency was also
disconnected as the storm
uprooted many electricity
poles.
