We are here once again for quality and standard installations. All the way from Portharcourt in Nigeria, We received an email that we should come for Power Audit in a recently completed project(RESIDENTIAL BUILDING). We gave them our proposal and we later agreed to carry out the power audit exercise.

On getting to site we met a very poor and unprofessional job done by local electrician.

Our aim is to carry out all the necessary electrical test with the aid of using the beow equipment

All the test to be carry our are:
Continuity test
Insulation resistance test
Loop impedance test
Load consumption test
Earth test etc...

Disconnection of final sub circuit for us to carry out dead test... i.e continuity and insulation resistance test

Following this bumper to bumper.

Electrical final sub circuit termination. We did a thorough cable tracing and carried out some dead test before the termination. unprofessional installation.

The electrician connected a single phase line and looped the other phases. Cable colour code matters alot in electrical installation.

The DB's are 8-way 3-phase which is is suppose to have 24nos of outgoing breaker. but we could not find the other breaker but we make sure we re-terminated all the cables on the available breakers.

The client's made a good choice by installing SCHNEIDER Electric distribution boards in all the floors

May I ask this question? Do you offer circuit diagram or wiring diagram after every installation? If yes, that's good. If no, please kindly consider it as a value-added service.

The circuit is used to show how the circuit functions. It shows the components of the circuit and how to make the connections between the devices.

There are few install I did years back that I really wish I had considered having these drawings.

We offer As-Built drawings for client who requested and ready to pay for it.

We are carried out some test today. Below are our are the pictures and observations


Picture 1: The voltage supply into the DB is healthy as seeing on the fluke tester.

Picture 2: Neutral to earth, the voltage seeing is too high. The ideal voltage should be less than 1. This is often caused by leakage or non functional earthing system.

Picture 3 : Line-earth, the voltage seeing is a further indication of leakage within the system as such high voltage isn't supposed to be present.

Picture 4: Loop impedance, this of course will never pass since there's no functional earthing system, and the voltage between earth and neural is too high. Equipment used is Kewtech


Loop impedance is simply a proof of good earthing system and a pathway of low resistance for fault current to follow through into the earthpit without damaging live and property. It's also an assurrance of a proper MCB breaker selection capable of tripping when there's fault or high voltage before damaging appliances.

We are concluding the last part of the power audit today. We worked on 4 DB's on the ground floor as we plan to catch up with last flight to Lagos.
