Grant Boko Haram Amnesty or risk another civil war - Nuhu Ribadu

A former Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, has warned that the refusal of President Goodluck Jonathan to grant amnesty to terror group, Boko Haram, can plunge the country into another civil war.

Ribadu, who was the presidential candidate for the Action Congress of Nigeria in the 2011 presidential election, spoke on Liberty FM in Kaduna on Saturday.

He urged the President to grant amnesty to the violent Islamist sect for peace to return to the country, saying he (Jonathan) should not claim that the sect members were ghosts.

He argued that with the way things were happening in the country, if nothing was done, “Nigerians will lose Nigeria to a civil war.”

Advising Nigerians against voting for a leader they can not trust, he told Jonathan to “hearken to the voice of the people.”

Ribadu said, “Jonathan was wrong to have said he will not grant amnesty to Boko Haram; he should not fail to protect the people and when people call saying we are tired, we are down; even if it means to dialogue and have an solution to the whole process, he should opt for such.

“You cannot say they are faceless because faceless people do not do things like this. Faceless people cannot be responsible and daily you see them on Facebook. Faceless people cannot be in your custody; ghosts cannot be people that are in the community, people who at a point wanted to dialogue.”

The former EFCC chairman added that a war could be averted “if we come together forgetting about sentiments, about differences and working towards unity and saving the resources of this country because it is only through that that we will be able to achieve peace.”Punch

I am not a politician but what the muslims in ACN; have been saying since the last bus terminal bombing shows that the so-called APC is an Islamic party. My question to Ribadu is; what does Boko Haram represent and what are they fighting for? Secondly, if he knows them, can he offer himself to represent them since Buhari and Sultan have in different occasions turned down their request to represent them? Ribadu, tell ur people that civil war will be fought in the northern territory and no more in the east and let us see how many people will be alive after six months. Islamists in the name of political party. Umu Igbo ka anyi nodukwani ebe anyi no bikonu!

Grant Amnesty to terrorists?
I fear for all these 'educated' Muslims, their reasoning surprises me. ACN is truly an Islamic party that support evil whn perpetrated by people in same religion. Okorocha shld watch his back as he fratenizes wit them.

I don't know that a terror group troubling a nation for unjust reasons can have amnesty. Ribadu & other polithiefcians advocating for Boko Haram's amnesty are sick in their right sense.

On the same programme, he sd d govt ws wrong to have granted Alams pardon.
As long as losers and disgruntled entities are thrust forward as 'progressives' in ds con3, we shall continue to witness a harvest of misfortunes.
For those of us in the know, we've always known dat Ribadu is a media creation.

Once Britain will not support the north with unrestrained flow of weapons, while strangling the south with arms embargo as they did before, the north is finished and they know it.

I think this crazy calls for amnesty for this dimwitted son of demons should stop forthwith! How do you give amnesty to pple that demand they want full sharia in a multi-religous state like nigeria!? Jonathan has asked the northen elders to sign an undertaken that the violent will be stopped if he withdrew the soldiers. Can ribadu and sultan do an undertaken that the boko haram will sheath their sword if granted amnesty!?

Dialogue with BH is just a matter of time it surely happen, because guerrilla war has never been crush it is normally settled at the round table, now politicians are taking advantage of that for patronage.

I suspect even Gej will eventually give them the amnesty for political gains close to the election to get them on his side and also to please some sections of the north.

CIA have already said it the boko haram is Nigerias local politics

In politics there is no permanent enemy or friend only permanent interest.
