The Edo State Government on Sunday gave Adams Oshiomhole and the Action Congress up till Tuesday to produce the Commissioner for Information, Mr. Calus Enoma, who went missing since Friday night. But Oshiomhole and the AC have dismissed the accusation as crazy and shameful, stating that the government and the PDP were trying to divert attention from their loss of face in the state. The police in the state however said they were yet to be formally briefed on the disappearance of the commissioner. The Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Peter Ogboi, however, told our correspondent that the police would soon swing into action. He said the police would in spite of the non-receipt of formal complaint from government, do it own investigations to establish the whereabouts of the commissioner. Enoma who has been in the news of recent, projecting the Edo State Government’s rejection of the election tribunal’s nullification of Osunbor’s election, was reported to have been kidnapped in the premises of a hotel in Benin on Friday. The Special Adviser to the Governor on Communication and Public Relations, Mr. Tony Ikpasaja, said the state government was shocked at the sudden disappearance of Enoma. He told our correspondent that the security agencies in the state had also been detailed to fish out the commissioner and his captors. He said, “The Government of Edo State is shocked at the sudden disappearance of Calus Enoma, the Commissioner for Information. Enoma who is also a lawyer has been at the forefront of the campaign against the tribunal ruling. “He has been vehement about the copies of the judgment taken away by the tribunal Chairman, Justice Umeadi, and has been coordinating the transcription (of the judgement) to enable us meet the appeal court deadline. Reacting, the Edo State Publicity Secretary of the AC, Mr. Reti Uzzi, said the disappearance of the commissioner was news to the party, and hoped that the government was not just making up an excuse to attack law-abiding AC members. |

almondjoy: Not a useless country but useless people are in the government. SECURITY=ZERO. PROTECTION OF LIVES AND PROPERTIES=ZERO. Walking on the street is even dangerous as stray bullets might come from any of the political thugs hired by these money miss roads. Robbery is the order of the day. Thanks to all the politicians who see power as the utmost and will go to any height to get it. |

viclee009: i agree with you because the accusations are just too suspect, accusing your oponent on friday and finding the guy dead 2 days later, its like the guy wants confusion in his own state not to talk of the guy leaving without his security details after a phone call,i believe if it was an oponent knowing the climate and being a politician he would have gone with his security so im thinking its prolly someone he knew and trusted but like you said, the truth ll come out hopefully, all for power, |

Edo commissioner’s death: AIG says there will be no cover-up Published: Wednesday, 2 Apr 2008 http://www.punchng.com/Articl.aspx?theartic=Art200804020463932 The police on Tuesday said they will leave no stone unturned to unravel the circumstances that led to the death of the Edo State Commissioner for Information, Mr. Calus Enoma. Enoma was found dead in a hotel room on Friday. The Assistant Inspector General of Police in charge of Zone 5, Mr. Udom Ekpoudom, stated this in Benin when he visited the Police Commissioner, Edo State Command, Mr. Chris Dega. The AIG spoke just as the family of the deceased called for a comprehensive investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death of the late commissioner. Ekpoudom added that the Edo State Criminal Investigation Department had already swung into action. He said, “We are equal to the task. It is not a difficult nut to crack. But is too early to give details. “At the end of the day, we are going to know if the commissioner was killed and who was responsible.” He promised that the police would at the appropriate time, address the press on developments in the matter. “We won‘t hoard information. Our boys are working as we are talking now,” he said. Meanwhile, the father of the deceased, Chief Richard Enoma, has asked the police and government to spread the scope of investigation to include the managenment of the hotel where he died. He also said that investigation should be extended to former general manager of the Edo Braodcasting Service, the person that called him on telephone out of his home on Friday night and his personal aides who were supposed to be with him at all times. Enoma said he believed that his son was kidnapped and then killed after a lady called him on the telephone out of his house. He said, “It was a lady who phoned and called him. There is a way of getting that lady. Government, State Security Service, and the police can get her. “They deceived my child that bodyguards should not follow him. He did not go there (to the hotel) to chase women. “He is not interested in dealing with women. The person who booked the hotel, the person who called him, the former general manager of EBS should all be investigated.” Enoma revealed that his son had told him that a former GM of EBS had threatened him. ”I advised him to report to the government. But I don‘t know if he did. Please, let the press work hard well so that governmenmt will take action,” he said. Enoma added that up till Tuesday afternoon the Edo State Governor, Prof. Oserheimen Osunbor, or any official government delegation was yet to visit the family. The wife of the deceased, Mrs. Julie Enoma, in between sobs, called on government to get the killers. She added that was the only way she could be consoled. His only child, 13-year-old Jennifer, also called on government to arrest the killers. |
