A TWO-DAY international
conference and retreat has been
scheduled to hold at the Igbo
Village in Staunton, Virginia,
United States (U.S.) on March 22
and 23, organised by the Council
of Igbo States in America (CISA),
an umbrella association of all
Igbo in the Diaspora.
Being facilitated by U.S.-based
physician and member of
Ohanaeze Ndigbo’s national
executive, Dr. Nwachukwu
Anakwenze, in collaboration with
the West African Culture Heritage,
Education and Tourism (WACHET)
and sponsored by the Igbo
World Assembly (IWA), all Igbo
communities, state associations,
business men and women and
individuals have been invited to
attend.
Igbo Village is said to be “a
tangible recognition of the
contribution of Igbo victims of
the Atlantic Slave Trade to the
development of Virginia and the
greater American Frontier
Culture, where enslaved Igbo
men and women, who travelled
by force from many Igbo
locations to North America,
helped to build what is known as
the United States,” CISA said.
The conference/retreat will be
chaired by the Chairman of
Innoson Motors Nigeria Ltd,
Innocent Chukwuma. The
keynote speaker is the Director
of Lagos Business School, Prof.
Pat Utomi; special guest of
honour is Minister of Tourism,
Culture and National Orientation,
Mr. Edem Duke, while the royal
father is Eze Obidiegwu Onyesoh
of Nri Kingdom.
Under the theme “Harness,
Harmonise and Perfect Igbo
Global Agenda”, the participants
will focus on “documents and
premise for New Igbo
Homelands in the U.S. based on
the recognition of the
contribution of Ndi-Igbo as one
of the four people-groups that
helped build this nation (with
others as English, Irish and
Germans);
“Documents and premise for
Immigration Centre as a result of
new Igbo Homelands, Igbo
naming ceremony for African-
American brothers and sisters
and lifetime achievement award
to Prof. Chinua Achebe (for the
great work he did and is still
doing for Ndi-Igbo).

On February 3rd, CISA was in a
teleconference facilitated by
Igbo World Assembly (IWA) and
represented by Igbo Leaders
from England, Spain, Finland,
South Africa, Canada, Italy,
Japan and of course, USA. As is
customary with IWA
teleconferences, they invited
an Igbo Leader in Nigeria to
brief member nations on the
situation on the ground and
field questions from members.
On the date in question, the
special guest was the
Chairman of the Igbo
Association in Kano State, Chief
Idika.
To keep a long story short, we
are informed that between the
end of November last year and
February 3rd, a total of 58
Igbos had been killed, in Kano
State alone! At the time of the
meeting, the Igbo Association
reported that they were
having a refugee situation at
their secretariat in Kano,
where Igbo families who are
afraid for their safety had been
squatting. Their cries to the
state and federal government
for security help had been met
with responses ranging from
complete indifference to a
request for them to "exercise
more patience". Chief Idika
pretty much pleaded that IWA
help in anyway possible
because it was getting more
difficult facing his constitutes
knowing that he and his
executives were working so
hard to alleviate the pain and
suffering of members without
even appearing to scratch the
surface of the issue at stake.
The request for help triggered
an IWA response mechanism
at a different level, but for
CISA, it reaffirmed and
reassured us that we are on
the the right path to solving
the age-long problem in
Northern Nigeria. But we can't
do it alone . . . we need the
complete buy-in of a subtantial
population of the Igbo
Community here in the United
States. We need you!
Our solution leverages the
recognition of Ndi-Igbo by the
state of Virginia, and by
extension the United State, to
create new Igbo homelands in
the Diaspora, starting with the
United States. Once a new
homeland and an immigration
center is set up, we hope
humanitarian grounds will
make it sooner that later, we
will initiate the process of air-
lifting Igbo refugees away
from Northern Nigeria to the
United States. Why not
Southeast Nigeria? Three
words: Ezu River Killings! Which
only confirms what history
already tells us: that Ndi-Igbo
are not even safe in Southeast
Nigeria. As most of us will still
remember, about 40 years ago
approximately 3 million Igbos,
mainly women and children,
were slaughtered in that
region in blatant violation of
the guidelines of the Geneva
Convention. If Ndi-Igbo were
not safe in that region 40 years
ago how much more unsafe
are they today with an
escalated threat from
organized and unorganized
terrorist groups in Nigeria
specifically targeting them for
extinction. As Onye Igbo, if you
think you are safe by "sitting
on the fence", in your safe sub-
division in USA, you better
think again. The onslaught
against Ndi Igbo is an on-going
process in Nigeria. Statistically,
within 24 hours of your reading
this email, Nwa afo Igbo, most
likely a youngman, would have
been murdered by senseless
ethnic killing in northern
Nigeria. With every killing, the
casualty gets closer and closer
to home. It might not be your
kinsman today. But how about
