Like seriously, many people just hear Russia and go heywire forgetting that Today's Russia is much smaller, less powerful, less influential and with a very battered economy that can not compete with the likes of US and UK. Russia just like Naija makes a lot of money too from its oil and gas, they will be very silly to contemplate war with a country that has the largest and most equipped Airforce and Navy. Today's wars do not need an army a million soldiers shelling in their tanks and artillary at m16 or Ak wielding soldiers in the battle field. No need for that, not when you are the owner of the stealthiest nuclear-powered aircraft carriers with a wing of 80+ fighter/bombers with precision guided munitions, not when you command far more B-2 spirit and F-2 Raptor fighter Jets than any nation in the world.
One B-1 full of JDAMs has more firepower, farther reach, quicker reaction and maneuverability time, and is far more accurate than 10 artillery units, while only putting 4 people into harms way instead of an entire battalion or regiment.
Air power mostly wins wars . Whoever controls the skies, controls the battlefield. And the intelligence. And the logistics. In fact, one of their strongest points is military logistics and arrangement, the American military logistical arrangement is superior to any military in the world that is why the can easily deploy 600,000 troops anywhere in the world with all their full equipments, vehicles, weapons and so on and then keep them there for as long as it takes withour qualms. China only sent a 600 man peacekeeping battalion to Africa in 2009 and was forced to reduce that number to a single 150 man Company after only 1 MONTH because its primitive logistics system couldn't even manage to support 600. The fact is this, the ability to rapidly move and deploy will suppress the enemy's intelligence, logistics, and ability for them to rapidly move and deploy too.

Well, I will cut you some slacks here; yes the President of the United State is influenced by a lot of outside groups and congress is also influenced, but the ultimate decision making stops at the desk of the President and Congress. This said, the most powerful influence in America is the America people and not Council on Foreign Relations or the Brookings Institution....If the American people does not want to go to war in North Korea, the President and other influential groups have to sell the war to them and how it will be "good" for them....what am saying is very complex, but that is what it boils down to.

Back to the "Fed is not own by the American Government" fallacy. As a one liner, that sentence is correct, but as you start to dissect the Fed, you will find out that it is an independent spin off of the American government, setup for public and private good....also:

1. The US President appoints and Congress approves all Fed Governors & Chairman. Which means, these Governors & Chairman servers at the pleasure of the US President & Congress...You cannot appoint someone to oversee what you do not own.

2. Yes, the Fed are "own" by Private Banks to the extend a stockholder "owns" a copy he bought shares from. These Private Banks must contribute securities to the Fed funds for use by the Fed; for this these Banks get a guarantee 6% dividend each, year...All profits made by the Fed each year minus expenses are turn over to the US treasury...another nail on the liner that, "US government does not own the Fed"

3. The US congress by statute can dismantle, dissolve, disband, scrap, delete, sack the Fed...you can not have power to delete from existence what you do not own.

4. The Fed is a non-private, non-public, profiting making and independent spin of the American government, given full autonomy to operate by the American government...these autonomy can be checked and controlled by the US congress.

The Fed is a good illustration of the United State government, setting up a profit making financial entity to serve as her Banker of last resort and to gain trust of investors and foreigners, the US isolated itself from the Fed's operations and decision making; allow major Banks to invest in Fed funds in return for guarantee dividend each year for their deposits and by law these Private Banks cannot remove their deposits; the US treasury gets all left over revenue from the Fed each year after expenses has been deducted; the US government have the last say on who becomes a Fed Governor or chairman..and US congress still have oversight powers over the Fed...

ragain450: I am from the U.S. and the general feeling over here is we the people don't want to be involved in another war. We for the most part didn't want the Iraq war be felt we were forced to do something after 9/11. I feel we could back down a little and not provoke this as much but when you have a someone as radical as North Korea threating nuclear war and testing nuclear devices against the U.N.'s advice I feel as though something should be done. We let our guard down before in WW2 and were attacked by Japan.
