You do not always file an action because of monetary compensation, it could be to test the validity of your right which has been infinged, the damages are usually a fallout of that decision. I do admit that in the event the journalists get a favourable judgement, levying execution on the police is not one of the easiest of things but certainly there is a moral angle to it. The state should not be seen as flouting competent orders of a court and this could be used not only against the police but against the presidency and its incumbent, in that case, you will be right in calling Nigeria a lawless state and no body can rightfully arrest you because you already have proof that a judgment was given against the state or its apparatus(ii) and they flagrantly refused to obey. Either way, the state will be the loser as it will not have a moral high ground to call itself a state that obeys the laws of the land.

The police did not charge them to court for forgery/libel, rather they are the one suing the police for breach of trust. It seem the police were only interested in knowing their sources and the moles in the presidency. Should we then conclude that the reported presidential directive wasn't a fictitious one after all, the police released the journalists without pressing charges against them(journalists)!

Why get yourself so flustered up over nothing? Like I do not know that the appropriate thing was to institute legal action against them(journalists) instead of clamping them into detention? Isn't that why they are suing the police for infringing on their freedom? My initial post was centred on why the police did not bother to charge them to court, after all, the presidency who ordered their arrest had come out earlier to refute the publication? Shouldn't they be tried for forgery and libel? If the police after arresting them have nothing against them, can we then infer that the presidential directive wasn't a fictitious one? I guess you are just an attention seeker!

There was a case of harassment by a colonel in d nigerian army. The judgment was in favor of the aggrieved and the army paid. Why won't the police pay? They shld knw better than being above the law. They can only appeal

It is one thing to be partisan. It is another thing to be foolish. You have gone from being partisan to very foolish if you think for one second that that suya-wrapper paper created in an oluyole business center was a directive from a government ministry not to mention the presidency. It shows you are just a student who have never set eyes on a government document before. I am totally disappointed in you. Shame.

What the police is interested in is just to nail a big name who is definitely behind the forgery. They are not too interested in the small fry at the leadership

You are an unrepentant dolt and a pipsqueak! Didn't you see that those were questions I asked bothering on why the police did not/have not instituted legal action against them even after the presidency had given the impression that the document was a forged one or what is there to investigate any further after the president who ordered their arrest have labelled it a fake directive? Always in a haste to attack anyone critical of government actions and policies, looking increasingly foolish!
