Passengers set out to have a great time at a resort island of Bali were in for a ride. A new Lion Air passenger jet, Boeing 737-800 missed the runway as it prepared to land at the Bali airport on Saturday. All seven crew members and 101 passengers were evacuated from the jet safely. Some were rescued in water boats while others swam out of the wreck. Twelve passengers reportedly suffered slight injuries and were released from the local hospitals today.

Officials noted that warning was given to the passengers before the jet crashed. Indonesian Transportation ministry official are still investigating the incident. The pilots and co-pilots have been tested for alcohol and drugs, which came out negative. Ruth Simatupang, a former investigation at the national Safety Transportation Committee suspects there was probably a miscalculation of the landing.

Currently Lion has been banned from flying to Europe because of several safety issues that have accrued over the years. Though Indonesia is amazingly growing in the Asian airline markets, it falls short in providing qualified pilots, mechanics, and updated airport technology that promotes airline safety.
