The events of last night is another testament to America's greatness. The ability to pull together after such a horrific event - neighbors looking out for one another and promptly providing helpful tips to law enforcement, people of different faith coming together, hoping and praying that the suspect is caught - proves once again that there is nothing we cannot achieve when we come together as a people. We achieve so much by setting aside our differences, beliefs, political affiliations, and everything else that so easily divide us.

This is indeed a victory for America and justice for the victims of that attack. Again, kudos to the law enforcement agents that put their lives on the line to ensure that the suspects are apprehended (dead and alive) in such a quick manner.

As we bask in the victory, it is important to look back and learn a lesson or two from this event. There are several lessons to be learned but I choose to focus on unity.

Unfortunately, in recent years, it seem like it takes a tragic event to bring us together as "We the People." Our political process has become so polarized that we can't seem to agree on anything. From how to get our economy back on track to issues such as gay rights, guns, foreign policy, and a host of others.

We are quick to point fingers at the bickering in Washington but we forget that most of these law makers act based on the feedback they get from their constituencies and not their individual convictions. It seem like on both sides (democrats and republicans), we get boxed to our political ideology so much so that we don't listen to the other side's argument.

Within our local community, are we able to have an honest and sincere conversation with people don't necessarily share the same ideology with us?

Let's remember that at the end of that day, we are all in this together as one people, one nation, under God. In the words of the late Nigerian writer Chinua Achebe, "things fall apart when the center cannot hold." We are the change we'd like to see. It begins with the individual, the community, and then, the nation.

As for the Boston Marathon explosions, what can we do as a community to minimize the occurrence of another domestic attack? This is not just an American problem, it's an issue that affects the world. There's been so much bombings in various parts of the world lately.

Please share your thoughts. I look forward to the interesting discussions.
