The Governor’s vehicle was involved in an accident on Friday.

Governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo State has been flown abroad for further medical treatment after sustaining ‘minor injuries on his forehead’ in a car accident on Friday.

Mr. Okorocha was on his way to inspect projects in the state when a Mercedes Saloon car ran into his motorcade.

In a statement issued, Saturday, Chinedu Offor, the Commissioner for Information, Culture, and Tourism, stated that the state governor had completed his scan and his doctors announced that there was no internal bleeding, fracture of the skull, swelling, or vision problems.

“The head is still sore but, he just needs to rest his head,” the statement said.

“His Excellency genuinely appreciates the prayers and concerns of all Nigerians and Imolites. He says that he would be back to the country soon to continue his work,” it added.

Mr. Okorocha sustained injuries in the accident along Owerri-Orlu road and was first treated at St. Mary’s Children & Community Hospital, Umuowa, before he was flown abroad.

It's high time we stop this madness, everyone rushes abroad to treat headaches and malaria, have we no shame anymore ? So, we cant afford to revamp the health sector ? Who is Minister of Health in this country ? Did he or she sign a performance contract ?

Going abroad is a neccesity for a politician in Nigeria cos doctors can be bribed to kill the patient.

This governor Okorocha and his aides are embodiment of jokes and comedy. What is the sense in flying the governor abroad for "minor" injuries on his forehead? Even if there are no hospitals that can perform and interprete CT scans in Imo, what about Abuja? Certainly such medical services and more are available in Abuja. Even in Enugu and many other Nigerian cities, CT scan can be performed with the same professionalism that is obtainable anywhere in the world. I was so impressed with Kogi state governor who opted to receive treatment in Nigeria after he sustained fractures from road traffic accident. But for Rochas, I'm hugely disappointed. Besides the verbal diarrhea, Rochas seems to be empty.

The services the governor was flown abroad for can be provided here in Nigeria (even in Enugu) 100%. The decision to go abroad is that of the governor and is bad judgement in my opinion.

He's one of those Politicians who fail to transform the health sector that is responsible for the death of vulnerable women who loose their lives during child birth every hour in nigeria. Now, these crop of corrupt rulers who seek medicare abroad when have minor injuris cos they knw our facilities can't be trusted. What happens to that poor old woman in a remote village in his state, Imo who cannot afford overseer luxury treatment?

Doesn't sound right. undecided

No one is going to get on a long plane ride, spend hours in customs, spend hours in a foreign hospital, just to treat a minor head wound, and then get on another long flight back to Naija.

Two options:

1. Insincere9gerian trying to get on the front page.
2. Rochas is seriously injured and they are not telling anybody.

I dey laugh. If you understand what is involved in head injury, you'll know why he has to go abroad for further tests and not treatment as this report alleged. He must have done only CT scan which is definitely not a confirmation. Even MRI is not that common in Nigeria.

MRI for what? CT scan is sufficient for his case. Even MRI is now available in Nigeria but it is not needed in this case.

You would have to be a fool to believe this story.

By the time he got all the way to Europe, or wherever, his headache would be gone.
This is nonsense unless the man is seriously hurt.

I wrote MRI is not common in Nigeria not that it ain't available. We are not sure the injury was that mild as people are speculating.

So, because he needs to rest his 'coursed' head he was flown abroad? Corrupt minded governor. Nothing would ever work in this country in the name of corruption and flagrant abuse of national resource. Just imagine this shait?

Smh for Nigeria.

Where is the sense in flying Alison Madueke to london for ordinary Appendicitis Oh how about Mrs GEJ who went on "holiday" on a death role bed in Germany? Some of you think we all have short memory...

Yes no body condones any politician failing to provide the medical facility to her people and rushing abroad for medical treatment, but trying to score cheap political point by ailing to condemn all involved is sickening...

Let's say that of DAM is a lie what about that of Mrs GEJ,is that also a lie and how many trips in the last one year. Well they have refused all of them from state to federal to fix up our hospitals hence their immediate exit abroad to get expert medical management. Its all about nigerians and double standard. God bless Nigerai

If the head injury was serious:
1. He would be in a coma, and
2. The long flight to Europe would kill him unless he was evacuated via air ambulance.

An MRI is not required to confirm the extent of an acute head injury, a head CT scan suffices. MRIs are not so common abroad either but I can tell you that there are at least 3 to 4 MRIs in Abuja - National Hospital, Garki Hospital, Medicaid and I think Echoscan (not sure about this last one).
