UNEMPLOYED CHEMICAL ENGINEER NEEDS YOUR HELP

Abdullahi Olayanju Biodun, an indigene of Offa in Kwara State, is a graduate of Chemical Engineering from Federal Polytechnic, Bida. He needs your help to get a job.

I am appealing to anyone and everyone who could render assistance to this young chemical engineer who had graduated for over 8 years but yet couldn’t secure any employment.

Chemical Engineering is one of the best fields of studies in the world, where graduates of such field gain considerable employment to utilize their skills and knowledge to add value and protect the society from harmful consumption and invent new processes.

Chemical engineers are sometimes called universal engineer, because their scientific and technical mastery is so broad. Some have helped develop atomic science, polymers, paper, dyes, drugs, plastic, fertilizer, foods, and petrochemical, pretty much everything. They devise ways to make products from raw materials and ways to convert one material into another useful form. They can make processes more cost effective or more environmentally friendly or more efficient.

It is worth to note that, Virtually every substance we consume today is a product of one form of chemicals or the other, from the water we drink, to the food we eat, drugs we take etc. But it is such a shame that here in Nigeria, we have graduate in such a wonderful field of study and yet, he could not secure employment after 8 years of graduation.

Abdullahi Olayanju Biodun, an indigene of Offa, Kwara State Nigeria is a graduate of Chemical Engineering.

He acquired his Higher National Diploma (HND) from Federal Polytechnic, Bida, Niger State, Nigeria in 2006 and completed the mandatory one year National Youth Service Corp (NYSC) in Gombe State, at the Gombe State Water Corporation in 2008.
Ever since his passing out as a Corp member, Abdullah has been searching for Jobs everywhere, he has written countless application letters, but he couldn’t find any job that relates to his field of study, neither did he find any at all.

Does it mean that only those whose parents or families are wealthy and connected are the only people that could secure employment in Nigeria? Does it mean that you must relate with a politician to get a job? Does it mean that you can’t get a job in Nigeria if you can’t give bribe? Why has this young and intelligent Chemical engineer remained jobless for 8 years?

Some people had advised him to enrol for Post Graduate Diploma (PGD), but how would a graduate who couldn’t secure a job after 8 years of graduation finance a Post Graduate Diploma study? Even if he has the resources which would definitely come from someone else, the phobia of not securing employment with the HND for over 8 years would certainly make him have a second thought before engaging in such venture.

If anyone has any opportunity for Abdullah or has anyone who could help in anyway, please, kindly indicate interest and assist this young intelligent man. You can drop an advice for him also.

Abdullahi lives in Ilorin, the kwara state capital and he is very ready to relocate to any part of Nigeria if there is any offer. He can be reached on, 08057453011

Thanks

Please inform the graduate that there is only one "e" in the spelling of "Unemployed". Spelling may be part of his problems - CVs containing typos are routinely discarded.

Abdullahi needs to change this kind of mentality first.

@OP

Have you advised Abdullahi to think outside the box and consider self-employment? Unemployment is a problem many Nations of the world are currently grappling with. Humanity has to be creative at this point in time and there may be vast rewards for those able to resist following the herd unthinkingly.

8 years is a long time to spend searching for work when Abdullahi could have now perfected and began the operation of one business plan effectively. You will probably tell me about capital and start-up fund but ask Abdullahi how much he estimates he has spent in the last 8 years seeking work and you may find that the same financial, physical and mental effort invested in that search for work, futile to date, may have been sufficient enough to have a thriving SME (small to medium enterprise) going by now.

Mr Man if you are really a chemical engineer, then start brewing. Illegal substances can fetch you a lot of money but on the legal side, you can refine better ogogoro. Brew different kinds of alcohol from different plants and make a name for yourself. Before you know it, people will start coming to invest in you.
How you think say those you dey go find job for their hand take start?

What about the oil industry? Chemical engineers are really doing well there. Maybe try and do some training courses/certifications to better acquaint yourself with the industry or do a Masters degree in Petroleum Engineering. Then try and seek employment. The upstream is a very vibrant and growing sector within Nigeria. There are lots of new local companies hiring in the upstream, midstream and downstream sectors.

Visit oil and gas websites to look into the best certifications for quick employment. Familiarise yourself with oil and gas software and also Chemical engineering software (like Hysys, Pipesim etc) as this can also be a bonus.
