This is an outrage! Over 40 policemen and officials from the Waste Water Management and Sewage Board, an arm of the Ministry of Environment, this morning stormed the mechanic workshop of Nigeria's first woman auto mechanic, Sandra Aguebor-Ekperuoh, and sealed the place. Her auto workshop, where she employs only female mechanics, is situated by 1004 in Victoria Island. Sandra, who has been an auto mechanic for the past 27 years, runs an NGO that empowers women called the Lady Mechanic Initiative where she has empowered and graduated over 150 women in Lagos State alone. Sandra has over 150 women mechanics in Abuja and 100 women mechanics in Benin where 50 of the girls are graduating in three weeks time. 40 of them will be employed by Sandra immediately after graduation in her Lagos, Benin, Kaduna and Abuja workshops. Some of the girls who have passed through her are now self employed with their own mechanic workshops and even training other female mechanics. This woman has done so much to empower women in this country and it's so sad to see this happen to her. We should be celebrating this woman, not taking land from her. She trains these girls for free, still gives them a salary and accommodates them. The land that was sealed today houses the Lady Mechanic Workshop and a hostel for her girls where the girls, some of them orphans, stay rent free. Their reason for sealing the place? They are saying the land belongs to the Lagos State government. Thing is, Sandra has been on that land for the past 10 years. I've spoken to Sandra myself and she's devastated but staying strong for her girls. Source: http://adevision..com/2013/04/lady-mechanic-sandra-ekperuohs-mechanic.html 4 Likes

Lagos Government is a very narrow minded and insensitive government , they are either closing down businesses or demolishing , the structures of the poor and defenseless people or closing businesses and markets and rendering thousands homeless and hungry or they are raising high taxes and increasing annual registration fees , when they are not doing any of the above they are either hosting a porn actress with N80M of tax payers money or celebrating the birthday of an ex convict with N2B . This is a typical example of Kleptocracy , Government of the Kleptomaniacs for the Kleptomaniacs and by the Kleptomaniacs. An the same thieves think in their high level stupidity they can bring this nonsense to the national level through APC. Big jokers !!! 14 Likes |

So this organisation exists and yet they allow markets get filthy only to close them as for Ladipo recently Why can't CLUELESS Fashola use this state agency empower the LGAs and LCDAs, which have all been under ACN for the past 14 years to do REGULAR cleaning and monitoring of the markets (as per 4th Schedule of the 1999 constitution) to avoid unnecessary closure leading to loss of revenue to the traders and the government as well as the citizens the governor swore to SERVE diligently She trains these girls for free, still gives them a salary and accommodates them. The land that was sealed today houses the Lady Mechanic Workshop and a hostel for her girls where the girls, some of them orphans, stay rent free. Be rest assured that Tinubu and/or his boy Fashola will soon put up a super structure there. This is what the duo has been doing with choice Lagos state properties while the mugucious residents of Lagos look on haplessly. _______________________________ 2015 - Next Level Democracy. According to the Land Use act, if the land in question is what is called "committed land", then the land in question must have been marked for government use years back. This is not an issue for sentiment. Does she own the land? Does she have a C of O? Is the land duly allocated to her or not (illegal structure)? Has the land been committed for government use? These are questions that need answers before we judge. 5 Likes |

Heard her talking on radio, she said the land was given to her by the ex governor of lagos on a temporary ground when her previous workshop burnt down. Her grose is that the guys coming to harrass her are not officially from the govt, she claims the guys use the surrounding lands for their personal use and wants to convert that site to theirs too. She and her apprentices are being locked inside the compound by the police and the watee bla bla b'a guys. She wants the news to get to the governor because she believes these people are not acting on behalf of lagos state govt. 1 Like |

This place is very close to my office o e yah. From my observation this lady is not the real owner of the land because there is another compound beside hers that has a lot of local food vendors, artisans and black marketers plying their trade, in fact inside Balarabe Musa crescent there are attachees. The local government used to deceiving by collecting dues from them and giving them courage nothing de happen. 1 Like |

SLIDE waxie: u've been provided with an address, wot do u need the phone number for? The issue of women empowerment in Africa is a major one. For those of us outside the country who care about this issue, it's important to try to help when things like this happen. Regardless of why her workshop was shut down, Sandra was doing an amazing job to help empower women with valuable skills, so that they could care for themselves and others around them. Those of us outside the country can't do much with an address, however, when trying to reach her and offer help; hence the request for a number. I hope this helps clarify things. |

Before I join the band wagon of sympathizers I just want to know if the land is hers,if it is not she should go and negotiate instead of emotional blackmail but if the land is hers and the environment dirty, the govt still ve d right to ensure its tidy, anything out of this then the govt is wicked |

HNosegbe: How come we haven't heard any statement from the Waste Water Board on this issue? With all the relevant government agencies like the land bureau, town planning and others legislated to respond to SUCH issues, the state instead sent Waste Water Management and Sewage Board to lock up mechanic shop over land and ownership issues? I'm 10000000000% sure this is a waste and environmental issue. There's a reason why this news exists only on gossip websites and tabloids. |
