A disappointing response greets the auctioning of 2Face Idibia’s wedding shoes and cap

It seems that Nigerians are getting back at music star, 2Face Idibia, for having his wedding ceremony outside the country. To express their anger, many of the singer’s fans have refused to bid favourably for some of the accessories used during his traditional wedding, which he auctioned on www.kaymu.com.ng, an online store .

The highest total bid for 2Face’s coffee colour hand-beaded traditional suede shoes and cap, so far, is N25,400. It is obviously less than the sum required for funding the two maintenance projects at the Lagos State Motherless Babies’ Home in Lekki Phase 1, where the charity proceeds will go to.

At the beginning of the auction, the online store had stated on its website that it was looking for serious Nigerians that were interested in bidding for the accessories.

“Important: Don’t disappoint the kids. Only place bids if you are interested in buying the items and have the money. Our community is about good people helping good people,” the online store had stated.

As at the time of filing this report, there were 43 bids for the suede shoes, while 35 bids were for the cap. However, the bidders seem to be disappointing the children who are the intended beneficiaries of the proceeds of the auction. So far, the highest bids for the pair of customised shoes and cap are N15,300 and N10,100, respectively.

Individual bids for the shoes are between N4, 999 and N15,300, while those of the cap are between N999 and N10,100. More than half of those who bid for 2Face’s customised cap actually believe that it is worth less than N5,000 in the market. Out of the 35 people who are willing to buy the cap at such moderate prices, 19 people offered to pay N5,000 or less.

Golden Boy, Oshine and Gbemy appear to be the most serious bidders for the singer’s cap. The three have offered nine different prices for the item. Each time a co-bidder places a higher price, they shoot up their bids. But Gbemi’s biggest price tag of N10, 000 has been surpassed by that of a new comer, Bhills, who on Monday night, indicated that he was ready to buy the cap at N10,100.

Last week, 2Face donated his coffee coloured hand-beaded traditional suede shoes and cap with the inscription, “2Baba”, to be auctioned on the “Celebrity Charity Auctions” of the online store to help raise money for orphans in Lagos.

Many Nigerians had argued on various social media that 2Face took his wedding to a place that was only accessible to invited guests and family members and not his fans. Some people even advised the star entertainer to rather auction all the gifts he received during his wedding if he truly loves the orphans.

A reader on lindaikeji..com had said, “2baba, after we bought your CDs and made you rich, you went to Dubai to wed so that we would not eat your rice for once. Today again, you want to raise money through us.Please go back to Dubai and get those who ate your rice to buy your shoes, cap, and your songs. If you want to help those children, start with the jeeps you received as wedding gifts.”

A similar celebrity auction that sold like a hot cake in recent times was that of the late American music icon, Michael Jackson. Last December, about 465 clothes and accessories, which span his career, were auctioned in Los Angeles, United States.

Jackson’s property, including his iconic white-jewelled glove and jackets he worn during the production of the USA for Africa video and for the ‘Dangerous’ tour; as well as during his meeting with former President George Bush, and a pair of signed, among many others, were auctioned.

The jacket he worn during the ‘Dangerous’ tour sold for $216,000 while the white jewelled-glove was auctioned at $192,000.

In all, Jackson’s personal effects fetched a total of $5m and some of the money was donated to charity. American Pop star, Lady Gaga, was one of the biggest bidders; she purchased 55 items at the auction.

Although the auction will close on May 19, 2Face would most likely be disappointed at the turn of events. The results, no doubt, are far below what he must have expected.

Tuface is an idiot, he disappointed Nigerian Music lover. He is a Nigerian and the wife is a Nigerian too... He went to Dubai for his wedding so that he could raise his profile. but he failed us. Give Tuface President of Nigeria, he will also take Nigerian money to foreign countries to build companies and useless it. Nigerian the truth is Clear... He is not a good Nigerian. Tuface should make an open apology to Nigerian Music Lovers or I will pray a bad prayer for him. .. As a man of God...
