Video: The election of Godspower Ake as Rivers PDP chairman. So why was he sacked?

On 15th April, 2013, an Abuja High Court presided over by Justice Mohammed Talba (not Justice Abubakar Talba of pension fraud case fame) ruled that the Rivers PDP chairman, Godspower Ake, should be removed from office and in his place, Felix Obuagu, be sworn in. The secretary of the party in the state was also removed and replaced.

Since then, there has been tension in the state.

However many observers question the legality of the judgement by Justice Talba.

Firstly, the case came up in an Abuja High Court, not even a Federal High Court bringing up the issue of jurisdiction. Also, the controversial judgement sacked a man who was validly elected in a well publicised election in March 2012 and replaced him with one who did not take part at all in the election.

Below is a video of the election of Godspower Ake. As can be heard, INEC was represented, the party leaders were all there, and this election was not contested until almost a year after the election, when cracks began to appear in the relations between Gov. Amaechi and the president.
