SNigeria has ambitious plans to turn pothole sites into tourist attractions in its quest to turn the nation into a top choice in tourist destinations, the Ministry of Tourism reported today. The government will invest almost N10 Billion naira ($62 million USD) NOT to make the roads motorable or safe for use to make it more tourist-friendly, A freshly set-up committee reckon thousands will come to these famous potholes and share their stories and personal experiences. ” Some tourists and locals might even have names for the more famous potholes, and once we can achieve that i believe our job is done” said a high ranking government official who requested to remain anonymous. 44-year-old Ghanaian Eugene Appiah said: “I love the unpredictability of your roads. There’s something out of this world about it-Like the surface of the moon or how japan must have looked like after the Nuclear bomb. “Driving around in Lagos you get many surprises, it’s like being on a plane in terrible turbulence or another less thrilling experience that mainly hurts your buttocks, costs money and puts the fear of God in you.” Nigerian driver Dimeji Lawal said: “I’m proud of what the government are doing, they have turned a bad thing into a good thing plus it’s not easy spending big money every year achieving zero results, just last week the pothole in my area destroyed my shocks but it drew a large crowd of people who came to catch a look and had their camera phones out”. According to our sources, specific potholes would be classified as “Black tourism sites” – the term given to pothole locations designated by the government as historically significant and worthy of celebration or just a way of recognizing potholes that have claimed the most lives. Of all the dumb ideas Jonathan's cabinet have being spewing out, this would take the price if it is ever implemented. I mean, how more dumb can these Ministers get? Even if the Taj-mahal and Kilimanjaro were domiciled in Nigeria, our tourism will still be taken the beating because of the immanent insecurity and unrest in the country. Whoever proposed this inane idea should put on a red nose and take Jonathans hat to be crowned the clown of the year. April fool on May 1st, 9ja na wa O! |
