Go to companies and firms in line with your course (mechanical engineering) submit your cv and IT letter from your school...I'm sure they would get back to you. On the issue of payment, its quite difficult as an IT (SIWES) student to get paid, reason is you're a trainee, therefore it would be very difficult for a company to pay you as a trainee unless of course you possess some skills which they feel would be of benefit to them.
