I doubt that will happen until Eriksson solves his Gerrard or Lampard problem. Opposing "10"s will have tons of space if both play in a flat four midfield. A good 10 will kill you if he gets space to operate.

Though on the loosing side (West Ham) of the FA cup final, the young midfielder, Benayoun toward shoulder above Gerard in his workrate and co-ordination.

Therefore in terms of actual midfield co-ordination (not goals for now) some players can certainly do better.

Gerrard is good as a midfielder and as a winger and even as a defender. Remember the world 11 versus Uefa 11. Remember he played the role of a central defender during the second half of the match!

That he is a midfielder is a non issue.


The way he carries the responsibilty and goals, no Striker/ midfielder can score those goals.

When the team is down, he is up.

Just like in Istanbul, his team is not playing anything but he rose up to occassion and changed the whole thing.
