Nasarawa Killings, 30 Policemen Dead, Others Missing. How We Survived Ambush By Militiamen. **militiamen, dressed in black shirts and caps, kept approaching amidst heavy gunfire as bullets were not penetrating them. **police officers were gathered in heaps and set ablaze by the militiamen. Ten policemen who survived Tuesday’s onslaught from the Ombatse militia group in Nasarawa State have attributed their survival to luck. Narrating their escape, one of the police officers who spoke on behalf of nine other survivors (names withheld) said their survival was only by the grace of God as they were outnumbered and overpowered by the militiamen. He also disclosed that the militiamen had prior knowledge of their coming and laid siege on the narrow road leading to the village, Alakyo, where they were supposed to effect the arrest of their leader and recover arms said to be in his possession. He said, “The road is narrow and they allowed us into their midst before opening fire on us at close range.” Efforts to return fire and scare them into hiding ware futile as bullets were not penetrating them, he said. The militiamen, dressed in black shirts and caps, kept approaching amidst heavy gunfire, which forced their Hilux van, the last van on the convoy, to turn back. “Due to the nature of the road and ensuing gun duel, our men could not turn back and 10 of us in our van were able to manoeuvre our way out but not without suffering bullet wounds,” he said. The recuperating officer added that the driver of their van was shot on the leg but, luckily enough, one of them with him in front could drive and immediately took over. Many of the officers took to the bush but hugely outnumbered by the militiamen who knew the terrain better, they were pursued and killed. “As soon as they killed an officer, his rifle was taken off him.” Meanwhile, the pervading atmosphere in Lafia, the Nasarawa State capital, is that of fear, anxiety and hope as the families of the slain policemen converged on the Dalhatu Araf Specialist Hospital (DASH) to identify their loved ones most of whom had been burnt beyond recognition. The Nasarawa State commissioner of police, Mr Abayomi Akeremale, has confirmed that the bodies of 30 policemen killed on Tuesday by a militia group at Alakyo village in Lafia had been recovered.

a sensible leader would demand that the governor of nassarawa should produce the culprits within 2 weeks but jonathan is a retärd! he would approach this issue softly until this militia group develop wings like boko haram. an assault on nigerian policemen is an assault on jonathan himself. troops should be sent to this village to arrest the culprits. return fire for fire before ombatse militia group becomes another al-qaeda. 13 Likes |

Some civilians where killed in the crossfire between JTF and Boko Haram, the national assembly ordered full investigation. Armed civilians killed more than 30 policemen same assembly ordered forgiveness by the Police force. What a country Nigeria is! Nobody will fight for these dead men but will fight for dead homicidal lunatics. Nonsense! 4 Likes |

What a tragedy This is the kind of occurrence that should teach our security forces to adopt strategic planning and execution of this kind of operation instead of the usual brutal show of force that they have come to be known for. If the accounts of the massacre are true, one can only wonder why 12 truckloads of MOPOLS were deployed to arrest one man. How did they think that a manoeuvre of such magnitude will not attract undue attention and alert the would-be culprit they intended to arrest? What was the plan exactly; march 100 armed men into a village and expect that there would be no civilian casualties as usual? The way I see it, this was a poorly planned manoeuvre that led to the death of these policemen and whoever authorized their deployment should be held responsible. God bless the dead 1 Like |

So why can't the Governor who is the Chief Security Officer of the state give such order! Now the Governor has succeeded in sacrificing those police officers just to draw the attention of the Federal government to help him defeat the indigenous people thereby continue the conquest undertaking by the Fulani down to the Atlantic. We are watching. 1 Like |

The government should grant the Ombatse Militia amnesty. If boko haram can be granted amnesty, they equally deserve it too. Boko haram kills soldiers, Ombatse Militia has not killed soldiers boko haram kills prison wardens, Ombatse Militia has not killed prison wardens boko haram bombs churches,UN buildings, markets, Ombatse Militia does not bomb anywhere boko haram opens fire on civilians in public, Ombatse Militia only kills fulani herdsmen and niger/chadian mercenaries boko haram kills policemen, Ombatse Militia kills policemen. Unless GEJ wants them to join boko haram in wanton killings, they should be granted amnesty now or recruited by GEJ to fight boko haram since they are not affected by bullets and have managed to repel fulani herdsmen who are on a reign of terror in the middle belt. Because they are not from the core north does not mean they should be discriminated against. 3 Likes |

Obiagu1: Now the Governor has succeeded in sacrificing those police officers just to draw the attention of the Federal government to help him defeat the indigenous people thereby continue the conquest undertaking by the Fulani down to the Atlantic. That is the main issue here Watch out how they will quickly annihilate the people here because they are non Muslims yet Boko haram is waxing stronger with Muslims pleading on their behalf 1 Like |

DO the Police know anything about covert operation. Imagine blowing siren to go and capture a warlord. . For such large number of personnel, the aim was "Kill them all" had they got into position first and today we would have heard that 5 people died and large cache of ammunitions were recover while the police take the other dead bodies to dump in the river. |

This is the level at which Nigerian politics has reached. The governor wants to retain power come 2015 by all means, now look at the result. These officers have merely been sacrificed on the alter of politics. And yet 2015 is still far away, so why the hustle and tussle? Most importantly, youths need to desist from being recruited into political thuggery, it doesn't pay at all. The politicians only turn you into a criminal after they must have used you to achieve victory at the polls. When youths start refusing to take part in political thuggery, these politicians would be left with no option than to do things the right way. |

If the police had considered this traditionist to be so dangerous to have stemmed the deployment of 12 truckloads of officers, why didn't they have air support, why didn't they have a unit to gather intel about civil activity within the area as well as the ammunition available to the traditionist's supporters, if they did have such a unit they could have discovered the so called superstitious activities of the militia and taken the necessary steps to curtail them. Its no news that the strategem the nigerian police work with is outdated and faced with the current deteriorating security situation in the nation its only a matter of time before another group shows up to embarass the entire security outfit of the nation once again. Needless waste of security resources, inadequate funds, insufficient use of common sense, naivety are just some of many words that could be used to describe the nations police force. How sad for those lowly paid officer to have stumbled unto the afterlife unannounced because of the blatant misconception of their superiors. 1 Like |
