That's a question we ask ourselves too.

But let's face it, Agatu has many entry points.... Esp from Nasarawa and Kogi...

These fulanis operate guerilla style.

Attack stealthily at dawn and gone before security operatives get there.

The villagers too aren't helping matters at all.

Trust me, if you are a competent leader, you will reduce this problem to the barest minimum even if the killers are spirits.

Localtrouble: Smh..every well meaning Nigerian should insist that we cut off these Hausa/fulanis for good. They should just go get themselves their own Country, they are just INSANE. Atleast the other remaining regions can handle their problems better..

On NIGERIA we stand. One Nigeria forever.

Good morning this evening....

Let Fulanis be, stop attack on them and their animals as it is obvious to all and sundry that Fulanis dont attack but only carry out repraisal attacks. Even if their animals destroy farms, there should be another way to address the issue of destruction of farms. It takes 6 months for food crops to mature but many years for animals to mature. And also, the economic loss of a single farm of one acre cant be compare with the loss of two to three animals. The solution lies in compensation to farmers by the Fulanis with the involvement of govts.

And you are scared or have problem with it? In 2011, we gave it to Jona but we have had enough persecution and marginalisation. Fulanis, Hausas, Yorubas, Igbos, Ijaws, etc we are all Nigerians. We got to chose who we want to support.

Whilst this might not totally solve the problem, you have raised great points and made good suggestions.

But you have to be careful, voting in a suicide Bomber as a president is not the best option.
If Buhari become the president of Nigeria, other country president will be afraid to attend meetings with him. Haven't you noticed from the behaviour of Buhari, he is a potential suicide Bomber.

And the Governor claimed there was no cause for alarm! Amazing!

Do we wait until the whole nation is consumed? Are we so cruel that we no longer hold life as sacred?

When you want to increase the price of PMS we start to compare Nigeria with America. If you did not know, Boston bombing claimed THREE lives and the whole nation rose up against it. Entire Boston airspace was shut. The city was shut down. Security search took place door to door and within a week the culprits were caught dead and alive!

Do we still have a country? Or perhaps the only things that matter now are 2015 and the sharing of the national cake!

Where is Nigeria headed?

C'mon Mac stop this. You know deep down what's going on. You know who's arming these folks and why. If the present leadership has done anything it is to expose the weak under-belly of this country. What you can see is political earthquake, power shifts, tectonic movements in the country caused by the ascension of Jonathan, a minority and from the eastern part of Nigeria, period.

The owners of Nigeria are not taking it too kindly that their empire is cracking up hence these attacks. And observe, they will increase in intensity upto and beyond the next political milestone. The herdsmen are merely foot soldiers but the message has got to them, that their benefactors are no longer in absolute control so its every man and cattle for himself.

Their handlers will be pleased that these groups are given free access to all territories while carrying weapons with which they hope to reign in lost ground by striking terror.

Unfortunately the pen or the ballot is mightier than the sword and am sure the middle-beltans will not make the mistake at future polls.

The GEJ presidency has changed this country for ever. What we see are the violent kicks of a dying horse. The earlier they realise that this country belongs to all the better for them.

100% garbage!
It takes 6 months for food crops blah blah blah
Do you know how much time and energy these farmers put in everyday? Only for some selfish and insensitive Fulani herdsmen to destroy them in minutes.
Since the govt has proved that they cannot protect these people, they should form their own militia and return fire for fire.

For as long as many people continue to think like this, GEJ will continue to be ineffective and the violence which is a result of the abdication of the duty of the Federal Government to protect lives and property will continue because criminals and anarchists know there is a vacuum. Nature abhors vacuum, if GEJ's government refuses to be in control, non-state actors will do so with devastating effects.

GEJ won't be the first southern non-Muslim to lead this country and he most likely will not be the last. So spare us all of these excuses.

It is time for people to say enough-is-enough and hold GEJ responsible, the buck stops at his table.

Then they should give him an incentive to stop the violence. Right now what I see is senseless backlash that's playing into the hands of any politician south of the Niger. Those who stand to gain more by keeping this country at peace and in shackles are themselves beating war drums or do you think OBJ and Yaradua wanted peace in the Delta because they just loved those people??

They thought by heating up the country folks down south will chicken out of the equity table. See the terrible miscalculation.

All well meaning Nigerian should rally round and save the north from itself but I simply cannot see that happening before 2015 when the picture has been made clear to all because it appears as if a vast number of people still donot realise what is happening. Thge north has to exhaust all its cards first.

Is it not time we the youth of MB should come together as one against this hausa fulanis. They keep kiling us secretly and even openly yet go ahead to tell us that ibos is our enemy. Like fools we accepts it atleast to live in peace?

We are just an irresponsible lot in this country. The House that represents the vast majority of us is in the process of amending the constitution. Which of these matters has it addressed. No, they won't because they feel it is a security problem. I just wonder how many soldiers and policemen you will need to escort every herdsman and his cattle or battalion you require to protect every village in the path of these nomads. It is crazy.

The other day I was in the south, close to a location where Shell has a facility. If you see the size of the military convoy that escorted a subcontractor mobilizing to the flow station you will just wonder. Tens of troops in complete battle gear prepped for heavy engagement complete with air support from airforce gunships. This is not a security problem, it is a political one and until we come together and sort out this mess instead of merely pointing fingers in nauseating hypocrisy and gross irresponsibility then we are in for a very hard time. The status quo cannot just be maintained anymore and whoever pretends otherwise is just deluding himself.

Re: Fulani Herdsmen Kill Over 50 In Agatu, Benue State by kinguwem: 4:10pm On May 14, 2013
The herdsmen are barbaric. Because of 550 stolen cattle they killed about 45 persons & destroyed property. Are they above the law? The solution to this problem is the restriction of movement of cattle. Ranges should be created in designated areas for animal husbandry. It is a shame that we are still operating a primitive method of animal farming in this modern age.

In your attempt to appear sophisticated, you have ended-up not making any valid point. GEJ needs no incentive to do his job of securing the lives of Nigerians.

It is the default solemn duty of any President in the Presidential system of government. If he can't or won't, resignation or impeachment are two options for he and the National Assembly to consider.
