Quoting an unnamed military spokesman, Tim Cocks, Chief Correspondent of Reuters in Nigeria has just reported that following bombardments of their hideouts by military attack helicopters and jets "a number of insurgents" have been killed in Borno state. There has been a "massive" surge in troops and armoury to the Northeast of Nigeria after Nigerian President Jonathan declared a State of Emergency in three of his nation's states, namely Borno (which is the heartland of the radical Islamic terrorist sect, Boko Haram which has sparked of an insurgency in the West African nation), Yobe and Adamawa state which is ruled by his own Peoples Democratic Party.

The military did not however say how many insurgents were killed but the Associated Press reports that at least 21 people were killed.

The bombardment took place at a forest reserve known as Sambisa. The AP quoted a military official as telling them 'we are not going to leave the forest until it's over'.
