The federal cabinet ministers are currently making presentations and responding to questions.

The ministers of transport, environment and works have already made their presentations.

The minister of transport said the eastern rail line rehabilitation will be completed by the end of this year. The work is currently about 35% completed but all the needed equipments are already on ground.

The Onitsha port which was completed and commissioned late last year is currently being concessioned for private management. The Ibaka deep sea port in Akwa-Ibom is being procured under PPP (20% FG, 20% state govt and 60% private sector). Actual work will commence next year. The Aba dry port was also mentioned. The feasibility studies for the Lagos-Benin-Onitsha-Enugu fast train line with an off-shoot from Onitsha to Aba will be completed in the 3rd quater of this year. After that, the procurement process for the project under PPP will commence.

The minister of environment addressed issues relating to erosion in the southeast.

The minister of works said the full reconstruction of the Enugu-PH road will commence later this year. Work on the Enugu-Onitsha road has gone full blast and will be completed next year. N30billion is already in the bag as counterpart funding to construct the Second Niger Bridge. Preliminary work on the bridge has commenced. The president will in a few weeks time flag off full blast work by Julius Berger on the Second Niger Bridge.
Several other roads were also mentioned.

The minister of power talked about several distribution and transmission power facilities that have been completed in the southeast in the last two years.

The minister of finance talked about N50billion interest free World Bank loan secured to holistically tackle erosion in the southeast.

The President is currently speaking

Sincere 9gerian: The deputy president of the senate, Ike Ekweremadu, just reminded us of some of the unfortunate events of the past. He said OBJ promised during political campaigns to transform the Enugu Airport to an international Airport. But after the elections they met with OBJ and asked for fulfilment of that promise. OBJ gave them the shock of their life when he said "it was all politics".

grin

Na OBJ nna dey take serious. Abeg, baba na experienced and seasoned politician. He plays politics virtually with everything in life.

grin

There was an existing Airport that was reconstructed and expanded. That was commissioned today. Also, the foundation laying ceremony for a new international terminal was performed today. I hope you'r clear
Re: President Jonathan Live In Enugu by koruji(m): 3:32pm On May 18, 2013
What is GEJ doing commissioning this airport again?
He commissioned a 300m meter extension and 15 meter widening of the runway before the 2011 elections. I guess this is the second stage mentioned below, but the airport is not international by any stretch.

The project is being executed in two phases. The first phase that was commissioned yesterday involved the asphalting and extension of the runway length from 2400 metres to 3000 metres and the width from 45 metres to 60 metres to enable wide bodied aircraft such as Boeing 747 to use the airport. The cost is N4.1 billion.

The second phase involves the construction of a new apron and taxiway; and the upgrade of the Airfield Lighting System to Category II. The cost is N11.2 billion and the contract will terminate in November 2011.

Sincere 9gerian: President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan is currently on a one day state visit to Enugu. The president is scheduled to commission the re-constructed Enugu Airport and perform the foundation laying ceremony for the international terminal of the Enugu Airport. Later in the day, the president will hold a town hall meeting with the good and peace loving people of Enugu state.

It will be recalled that reconstruction of the Enugu Airport and building of an international terminal were some of the promises made by the president during the 2011 election campaigns.

Mr President, welcome to the Coal City. We love you!

(The Townhall Meeting is now live on NTA)

Re: President Jonathan Live In Enugu by Nobody: 3:41pm On May 18, 2013
Am watching the programme now.

Am most impressed with Adaeze Oduah delivering her speech in Igbo. It was lively and made d most enjoyable session to d audience

Rochas has been uncomfortable. To me, dat is immature. Peter Obi is also in d opposition party but he is so at home plus excited and has always patnered with GEJ for d interest of the SE. That is maturity, politics shd come later.

GEJ is wearing d igbo red cap, (dats so unfamiliar to me). He also cracked some jokes before his speech(didnt also knw he has some sense of humor)

Sullivan Chime is cute, i love his smiles and poise. And he is chewing gum in a professional way.
Peter Obi is a man whose personality i like. As i said, he is APGA but leads d SE gov forum dat has 3 PDP govs, n d issue of Opposition never cums up. Rochas learn.

GEJ promised d int'' flights gon start by nex month noting d region definitely needs an intl airport more dan every region cos d igbos are most travelled. Ok, we shall see weda it wl be true or plain politics.
The issues of 2nd Niger bridge was raised n Ngozi Okonjo Iweala( who wore a scarf dat was NOT tied in a careless manner as usual, dats so unfamiliar and almost odd, lol) gave a positive response as per d funding, how she is making deals with d world bank, n how she wants enuf capital on ground first before work starts, etc.

Others included the finishing of all the federal road projects, rail lines, Aba dry Port n d establishment of an economic hub in SE.
And of course, Boko haram tnz were discussed, GEJ was commended on d SOE in d north, because dat wl protect igbo businesses there

ZUBY77: Check out good things about Enugu state. There was no media hype about this visit. No signs anywhere in Enugu. No hastening of contracts, no stopping of market traders from doing their businesses.. NO NOISE.
He will come, commission his things, wine and dine etc and return home..

I remember when he visited Anambra last august. The advert and publicity started in august of the previous year. Markets were closed. Two million police and army in the streets. everything stood still just to commission a beer factory...

The environment of enugu metropolis is so serene that there will be no need to change anything..
We love Enugu, we love Gej and we love Nigeria without three NE states.
