Chief complaint: Severe Headache

Past Medical History: Has visited a private Hospital and prayer house before coming to the Hospital

Vital signs: Temp. 36.50c ,Respiratory rate 24brpm,
Pulse rate 104bpm, BP 140/80 mmHg

On Examination: Chest is clear

Diagnosis: Complicated malaria

Plan: Admit, give IV D5W 500ml +
1 ampoule of quinine injection +
3ml Vit B complex stat,
then 500ml D5W 12hrly later.
IM Artemether 150mg daily for 3/7
IV Ciprofloxacin 200mg 2hrly for 48hours,
put urethral catheter
Do RVS, PCV & widal test
Result RBS 136mg/dl

Please I need a rationalization of the prescription based on the doctor's diagnosis. I met this case on my clinical rotation, especially the Cipro that was given, why was it given and is it rational.
