He has been confirmed dead by a family source which further told THISDAY that he died Thursday in Canada at the age of 73 from an undisclosed ailment

He died in Canada on Thursday, a family source said.

Ogbulafor is from Olokoro, in Umuahia South local government of Abia State.

He was born on May 24, 1949, and died peacefully on Thursday night, the family source stated.

Ogbulafor was first PDP’s National Secretary before he later became National Chairman after a bitter national battle between Senator Sam Egwu and Senator Anyim Pius Anyim.

He was forced to resign as PDP national chairman by the powers that be, when he fell out with them.

Ogbulafor was later charged with an alleged financial recklessness while serving as a minister.

.He was reputed to have boasted that the PDP will rule for 40 years which did not come to pass, as the All Progressives Congress (APC) truncated that dream and eventually defeated it in 2015.

Court gives Amaechi, others clean bill of health as Rivers Govt withdraws all criminal charges

The Rivers State Government has dropped the criminal case it filed against a former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi and governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Tonye Cole among others.

The State Government had filed a criminal suit accusing them of selling government assets and diverting the proceeds running into several billions of naira during Amaechi’s tenure as the state Governor.

President Muhammadu Buhari has been advised on how to resolve the prolonged strike embarked upon by the

Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU.

Buhari was urged to sell eight jets in his presidential fleet and use the proceeds to meet the demands of ASUU.

This suggestion was made by a former aide to ex-President Goodluck Jonathan, Reno Omokri, in a series of tweets.

Omokri pointed out that the Nigerian presidential fleet was worth over $200 million, while ASUU demanded less than $100 million.

He faulted the fact that the presidential fleet has about 10 jets to serve one president.

According to Omokri: “How much is ASUU asking for? Less than $100 million to fund universities. Buhari has 10 Presidential jets worth over $200 million.

Why not sell eight and use the money for ASUU? The British PM does not have an official jet. These are the kinds of things Atiku would do!

“Nigeria has no national airline to serve 210 million people. But we have 10 Presidential jets to serve 1 President. No be juju be that?

“That is why ASUU is adamant. Money is not our problem. Our issue is how we spend the little money we have! Atiku will change that!”

ASUU had been on strike since February 2022 over the government’s refusal to meet a 2019 agreement.

Part of the face-off is due to the government’s insistence on using IPPIS against UTAS to pay lecturers.

Meanwhile, ASUU had declared an indefinite strike following a breakdown of negotiations with the government.

ONITSHA, Anambra, Nigeria – Market men and women at the Eke Awka market in Awka South Local Government Council of Anambra State have lamented over the new tax regime of the governor of the state Prof Charles Soludo.

The lamenting traders , include vegetable, Okoro , groundnut and hawkers who are being forced to pay multiple of N200 on daily basis.

Our reporter’s finding show that shops owners in the market are being taxed N14,200.00 why the hawkers are randomly forced to pay N200,00 at various time and places every day.

Recall, that Soludo had during a meeting with Parks and Market executives in Awka hinted about introducing a new tax regime in the state. He said that the new tax regime has become imperative as the era of revenue generation through the sale of crude oil was gradually phasing out.

According to him, since February this year, no remittance had been done from NNPC into the federation account as money accruable from the sale of crude oil was gradually dwindling.

Last week Thursday , Eke Awka market manager used bells to announce that every trader in the market has between Tuesday to Friday to pay N14,2000 as stallage rent and others fees.

Speaking to our reporter in Awka, former chairman of Eke Awka Market 4B Emeka Onyemaechi said that on July 1st the state governor had banned all cash payment of government money but it is surprising that people entered the market demanding for payment without information from the government.

“Last week Thursday I was inside my shop , some people started ringing bells ,announcing that everybody should come out and pay for his stallage and other fees from Tuesday . I asked them how much and they said N14,200.00 per shop. On Friday I went to Anambra state board of internal revenue to find out the true position.

The information I got was that on Tuesday ,they are coming to capture all shops in the market and everybody will pay N2,000 .00 for the capturing and after that government will give account number where traders will pay their fees .

Unfortunately , on Tuesday (holiday) they started the capturing and collection of the N14,200.00. They forced people to the market office where over 20 POS were stationed and people without cash were asked to use their ATM to pay. After that I called the revenue office again and complained, they said we should pay ” he said.

He called on the state government to quickly address the issues of hiring private persons to collect revenue for the state government.

According to him, the government should have passed circular to the market leaders about the development if actually the payment originates from the government.

He however, he said that despite all this some people are still extorting money from poor hawkers in the market He said that all the women who bring fresh vegetable , Okoro, groundnut and others are being taxed N200 at each point in the market and whoever argue with them would be beaten to stupor.

Another trader in the market , Mr Kene Obunna said that it is sad that the government was just forcing people to pay revenue using those who do not have shop in the market.

According to him, the chairman of the market is living in a hotel without a single shop in Eke Awka and he does not know the problems traders face in the market. He said he is using young men to intimidate people to pay or risk being beaten.

Speaking to one elderly woman Mrs Nkiru Obiora who hawks vegetable in the market, she said that it was tough for them coming to the market and pay multiple level of N200.

According to her, she pay up to N600 any day she brings vegetable into the market, saying that if you argue with the collectors they will beat you without minding your age.

A source in Anambra State Board of Internal Revenue , who never wanted his name on print confirmed that the state government has approved N14,200 payment for payment in Eke Awka market .

According to him, government commenced the enumeration of traders in the market last Tuesday and after the capturing everybody was given a code number to go and pay into government approved banks and POS.

He said the payment in Eke Awka market is N12,200.00 and N2000 for the capturing of traders thereby bringing the total to N14,200. According to him, the capturing money cover the sticker and identity card. He said the identity card is N700 while the sticker which will be placed in their shops is N1,300.

However , when contacted the state Commissioner for Commence , Dr. Obinna Ngonadi said he cannot comment on the matter and he switched off his phone. Meanwhile, the press secretary to Governor Soludo , Mr. Christian Aburime said that government will at appropriate time issues a statement about the issues.

According to him, he cannot confirm if the state governor has approved the collection or not. “Just give us time we shall reach out to you on the development in Eke Awka” he said.

JUST IN: APC governors are outraged by Tinubu’s choice of Shettima to meet with Buhari today.

Some governors on the platform of the All Progressives Congress, APC, are said to be dissatisfied with the selection of Ex-Borno Senator Kashim Shettima as APC Presidential flagbearer Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s running mate.

Track News has learned that the Governors will meet with President Buhari today in Daura to formally register their displeasure before deciding their next course of action.

Tinubu had long submitted a list of potential running mates to the president, on which Buhari had refused to act. He then took the initiative because the deadline is Friday, July 15, and formally announced Shettima before the deadline.

The announcement immediately sparked a squabble within the party, as some of the governors who had worked tirelessly to ensure Tinubu’s ticket was considered ‘arrogant’ and went against the agreement he had with them.

To that end, the governors, the majority of whom were from the North West, did not object to Shettima’s selection, but rather to Tinubu’s disregard for all of their agreements in order to announce the name.

The Governors and Tinubu were said to be in constant ‘back and forth’ over who would be his running mate. They had begun to consider pandering to Tinubu because his sentiments were appealing to Shettima.

To accomplish this, the governors allegedly agreed with Tinubu that the unveiling would take place with them present to demonstrate consent and agreement.

However, declaring as if they didn’t matter in the equation, especially since some of them were uncomfortable with the Muslim-Muslim concept, enraged them.

Aside from the governors, Senator Abbo of Adamawa, who was a member of some of Tinubu’s support groups and committees, sent out a scathing message in which he expressed his disappointment in Tinubu for defying popular opinion by running on a Muslim-Muslim ticket.

Abbo, who promised to formally submit his resignation letters today, stated that if Tinubu refused to listen to counsel as an ordinary citizen, he would be worse as president, and resigned from all committees.

On Sunday night, another top party official, Daniel Bwala, resigned over the ‘Muslim-Muslim’ ticket saga.

“Tonight, I officially resigned my membership of @OfficialAPCng on principles and convictions that I hold so dear,” Bwala wrote on social media. At this point in our nation’s history, our efforts and energies should be directed toward uniting our people.”

A 20-year-old girl identified as Sherifat Suleiman has reportedly committed suicide over incessant fights with her brother.

The incident occurred at about 4pm on Sunday July 12, in Isawo area of Ikorodu, Lagos state. It was gathered that the deceased who lived in a two-room apartment with her brother, was preparing for the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) before taking her life.

She reportedly began writhing in pain after ingesting a poisonous substance she bought. Neighbours who found her lying on the floor with whitish discharges from her mouth, said she died while being rushed to the hospital.

Vanguard reported that residents of the area said the girl decided to commit suicide when she could no longer withstand the physical and psychological assault by her brother she started living with after the death of their father. Upon examining her body, her neighbours noticed bruises on her legs and laps

Her corpse was wrapped up by her step-brother who subsequently travelled down to their home town in Ijebu area of Ogun State, for her burial.

Patrice Lumumba, in full Patrice Hemery Lumumba, (born July 2, 1925, Onalua, Belgian Congo [now Democratic Republic of the Congo]—died January 17, 1961, Katanga province), African nationalist leader, the first prime minister of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (June–September 1960). Forced out of office during a political crisis, he was assassinated a short time later.

In 1955 Lumumba became regional president of a purely Congolese trade union of government employees that was not affiliated, as were other unions, to either of the two Belgian trade-union federations (socialist and Roman Catholic). He also became active in the Belgian Liberal Party in the Congo. Although conservative in many ways, the party was not linked to either of the trade-union federations, which were hostile to it. In 1956 Lumumba was invited with others on a study tour of Belgium under the auspices of the minister of colonies. On his return he was arrested on a charge of embezzlement from the post office. He was convicted and condemned one year later, after various reductions of sentence, to 12 months’ imprisonment and a fine.

When Lumumba got out of prison, he grew even more active in politics. In October 1958 he, along with other Congolese leaders, launched the Congolese National Movement (Mouvement National Congolais; MNC), the first nationwide Congolese political party. In December he attended the first All-African People’s Conference in Accra, Ghana, where he met nationalists from across the African continent and was made a member of the permanent organization set up by the conference. His outlook and vocabulary, inspired by pan-African goals, now took on the tenor of militant nationalism.

As nationalist fervour increased, the Belgian government announced a program intended to lead to independence for the Congo, starting with local elections in December 1959. The nationalists regarded this program as a scheme to install puppets before independence and announced a boycott of the elections. The Belgian authorities responded with repression. On October 30 there was a clash in Stanleyville that resulted in 30 deaths. Lumumba was imprisoned on a charge of inciting to riot.

The MNC decided to shift tactics, entered the elections, and won a sweeping victory in Stanleyville (90 percent of the votes). In January 1960 the Belgian government convened a Round Table Conference in Brussels of all Congolese parties to discuss political change, but the MNC refused to participate without Lumumba. Lumumba was thereupon released from prison and flown to Brussels. The conference agreed on a date for independence, June 30, with national elections in May. Although there was a multiplicity of parties, the MNC came out far ahead in the elections, and Lumumba emerged as the leading nationalist politician of the Congo. Maneuvers to prevent his assumption of authority failed, and he was asked to form the first government, which he did on June 24, 1960.

On September 5 President Kasavubu dismissed Lumumba, but the legalities of the move were immediately contested by Lumumba; as a result of the discord, there were two groups now claiming to be the legal central government. On September 14 power was seized by the Congolese army leader Col. Joseph Mobutu (later president of Zaire as Mobutu Sese Seko), who later reached a working agreement with Kasavubu. In November the General Assembly of the United Nations (UN) recognized the credentials of Kasavubu’s government. The independent African states split sharply over the issue.

Meanwhile, in October, Lumumba had been placed under house arrest in Léopoldville, guarded not only by Mobutu’s forces but by those of the UN as well, which provided him with protection. After the General Assembly decided to recognize Kasavubu’s government, Lumumba escaped from home confinement and sought to travel to Stanleyville, where his supporters had control. However, he was caught by Mobutu’s forces and arrested on December 2. Lumumba was initially held at a military camp in Thysville (now Mbanza-Ngungu), but concerns that the soldiers there were sympathetic to him led Belgian, Congolese, and Katangan authorities to arrange for his transfer to a different location that they deemed to be more secure—and one that would almost certainly guarantee his death.

On January 17, 1961, Lumumba and two associates, Joseph Okito and Maurice Mpolo, were flown to Elisabethville (now Lubumbashi), where they were delivered to the secessionist regime in Katanga and its Belgian advisors. On the flight there, they had been beaten by the soldiers escorting them, and, once they landed in Katanga, they were beaten again. Later that day, Lumumba, Okito, and Mpolo were executed by a firing squad under Belgian command. Although their bodies were initially thrown into shallow graves, they were later dug up under the direction of Belgian officers, hacked into pieces, and dissolved in acid or burned by fire.

The Katangan government withheld official announcement of his death until February 13 and then claimed that Lumumba had escaped from their custody and had been discovered by villagers, who killed him. Rumours of Lumumba’s death had circulated soon after it occurred, however. The government’s explanation of his death was quickly disputed, although it would take decades for the full circumstances surrounding his death to be made public. His death caused a scandal throughout Africa and beyond; retrospectively, even his enemies proclaimed him a “national hero.”

Over the years, inquiries—such as those undertaken by the UN, Belgium, and the United States—as well as carefully researched books have shed light on the events surrounding Lumumba’s death and, in particular, on the role played by those two countries, particularly Belgium.

2. Don’t inherit other people’s enemy:
It is total lack of education and enlightenment when you automatically make your friend’s enemies your own. Don’t make people your enemies just because they are not in good terms with your friends.

Don’t use your children as weapons of war:
God can use your enemies to bless your children! The Holy Books says that our children are for signs and wonders. Stop using them to fight those you don’t like.

Your children will need to discern their enemies for themselves; never use your parental influence to make your children hate others.

4. Don’t gang up with others to hate someone:
Don’t join the majority to hate someone, you may realize that the person has no offence. Someone said, “If you don’t see it with your own eyes, or hear it with your own ears. Don’t invent it with your small mind and share it with your big mouth”. Never join the multitude to hate someone else.

5. Don’t be used as weapon in other people’s battle:
It is not every battle that you must involve yourself in. Refuse to be used as weapons in other people’s battle. When people fight dirty, refuse to take sides. Observe deeply before concluding finally.

6. Don’t hate people just because they don’t behave like you:
That someone is not your tribe doesn’t make them your enemy. It is a waste of education if the only people you like are those that are like you.

The greatest proof of our education is in how we respond to people whose opinions are different from ours. People who think their opinions are superior to others are most prone to overestimating their relevant knowledge and ignoring chances to learn more.

The people who don’t think like you are your greatest source of enlightenment. It is normally people that are not like us that help us grow the most. Companies that had maximized growth are really those that value diversity and inclusion.

7. Don’t judge people until you know the whole story:
Someone once said,* “Beware of the half-truth. You may have gotten hold of the wrong half”. Don’t judge other people’s choices without understanding their reasons.

Chelsea striker Tammy Abraham has told the club he wants a bumper new deal worth £130,000 a week, according to reports..”

The Times reports the Blues forward is keen to be paid the same as fellow academy graduate Callum Hudson-Odoi. His existing £50k-a-week deal runs until 2022. But the 22-year-old is looking to almost treble his wages if he signs a new contract this summer.

The former Aston Villa loanee is believed to be assessing Chelsea’s activity in the transfer market before putting pen to paper. Team-mate Hudson-Odoi earns £120k a week plus bonuses after being signed up to a five-year deal back in September.

The suspect has been arraigned for allegedly luring a victim on a dating app and gaining unauthorised access to his credit card.


A 22 year-old Nigerian is on trial at the Dubai Court of First Instance after robbing a Turkish national of about $8,200. According to court records, the Nigerian lured his victim via a dating app, locked him inside a hotel apartment and stole his money.

Aided by other suspects still at large, the Nigerian made a social media account to deceive the victim who went to a flat in the Al Barsha area believing he will meet a girl he came across on social media.

An Emirati policeman testified that the victim, of Turkish origin, reported the incident after the defendant assaulted him and stole his money. The gang lured the victim to the apartment, closed the door, tied his hands, assaulted him and threatened to kill him.

“I was assaulted by the suspects and they withdraw Dh30,000($8,167) from bank account using my bank card and details.

They were three men and a woman,” the victim said according to police records. Dubai Public Prosecution charged the 22-year-old Nigerian for locking the victim inside an apartment, theft, and using his credit card without authorisation.

The Nigerian will remain in custody until the trial begins on July 16, reports Gulf News.

Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State has slammed Governor Abdullahi Ganduje of Kano State, after he dished out threats of isolating him ahead of the governorship election scheduled to hold in Edo state in September 2020.

Ganduje who was made Chairman of the APC National Campaign Council for Edo state had promised to dismantle alleged PDP’s rigging machine and send Wike, Chairman of its campaign council to the isolation centre. He also told reporters that the party will reclaim Edo State, which it lost to the opposition party with the defection of Governor Godwin Obaseki.

He said;

“There is no soft spot for anything like that. The issue is that first of all, we know PDP made Governor Nyesom Wike their chairman; I assure you, we will isolate Wike in an isolation centre and before he recovers, the election is over.

“The PDP decided to accommodate our former governor in Edo State not because they have anything in common; not because they share some ideological feelings, but simply because he is managing the treasury of Edo State and they want him to use that treasury in order to win the election.

“But I assure you, the people of Edo State are watching they know that somebody who was assisted in 2016 to win an election, somebody who was given every cooperation to succeed in the governance of Edo State without doing much for the people, at the end of it, he has taken the treasury and now handed it over to PDP in order to win the election.”

Governor Wike who reacted to Ganduje’s threat, taunted him by saying he cannot influence the election with his ”dollars”. Speaking at the inauguration of the PDP campaign team in Abuja, Wike wondered how a “man who seen stuffing dollars in his babariga” can isolate him. He further stated that no one can intimidate them in the governorship election.

Wike said;

“Yesterday, I was told and today I read on the pages of newspapers that one Governor Ganduje said that he is going to isolate me until the election is over.

“If Nigeria is supposed to be a country, who is supposed to be isolated? A man who pockets dollars in ‘babanriga’ from contractors is not isolated and you say that me should be isolated. In this country, where are we heading to?

“Let me tell you why they [APC] made Ganduje the chairman of the campaign council – it is because of the dollars they saw.

“What he doesn’t understand is that we are from the Niger Delta; we shall chop his dollar and we will chop him to a coma. So, Ganduje, your dollar will not work in Edo State, we have integrity in our party.”
