This is very execellent iniative regardless of where the refinery is situated. some guys are making some kind of offside comments. i like the man die, he's making wanderfull investment to reduce fustration for people. highest provider of labour in Nigger if not Africa. up u Dangote! long life and prosperity.

This is one man I will continue to respect. I posted his tomato factory he is building a while back. It has never been the job of government to provide jobs. Government's job is to provide the enabling environment. Every needs visionaries who can see beyond their nose and become business greats! Dangote understands this and I duff my hat for him.

People talk about corruption in Nigeria, but they forget that even with corruption, if the corrupt persons invest the money to build businesses, the country would have been 100 times more developed than it is today. What did people like IBB do with all the monies they stole? Niger has no serious industry till date. I will continue to say that our problem is not corruption but wicked men who have no vision.

Militants fit migrate o! Or even self, dem fit evolve! Make una help me tell am.

Mad Cow: Why would he build the refinery in Ondo State?! Does Ondo State have oil wells or does he intend to run pipes from Ondo to the South-South?!

You didn't know there was a refinery in Kaduna? Kaduna has no oil nor oil wells. Apply same logicsmiley

naptu2: Choosing location of refinery = proximity to source of crude oil and proximity to market for petroleum products.

Ondo state has oil wells and is close to Lagos, which is the largest market for petroleum products in Nigeria.

Plus

Peace-loving Ondo people.

He is a private investor.
Their job is to trigger the economy and provide jobs.
All govt has to do is provide the enabling environment, collect taxes, and protect consumers.
That's how it's done, in developed climes.

When our crude oil is been taken abroad for refining, you guys didn't See anything wrong with it. Now that its going to be done in one of the states that make up Nigeria, its wrong. The only right place would have been your village?

Building refineries in kaduna and ondo is moronnic.
Kaduna has no oil, while ondo is not even in the top four oil-producing states.
Anyway, as long as it's not FG money,he can invest wherever he wants.

stop displaying your illiteracy.
It makes more sense building your company closer to where raw materials can be easily sourced.
Delta,Rivers,bayelsa,akwa-ibom,imo are far more viable sites for the placement of a refinery.
Re: Dangote Promises To End Fuel Import In 4 Years by naptu2: 12:06pm On May 24, 2013
I've always wondered why people question the existence of Kaduna refinery.

What are the things a farmer is concerned about?

1) Raw materials: arable land, water = raw materials. In this case, crude oil.

2) How to get produce to market: proximity to the market (to reduce transport costs) or means of transport (good roads, river, rail line, etc) so that he can sell his produce.

Petrol, diesel and kerosene are used in northern Nigeria. There is a market for these products. Kaduna refinery exists to take care of this market. Indeed Niger Republic has built a refinery close to the border I order to profit from the shortage of refined petroleum products in northern Nigeria.

Where is the biggest market for refined petroleum products in Nigeria

The niger-delta that produces the oil has a shortage of refineries to refine the huge amount of crude extracted daily, and you are trying to justify the building of a refinery in the desert.
It beats common sense.
Depots can always be built in various parts of the north to adequately supply them, but refineries have no business there.

My beloved Mayor, I'm from Rivers State but reside in Ondo State. Ondo State is among the 9 Niger-Delta States because it has oil wells. Unconfirmed source said they contribute as much as 7% to the total oil figures in Nigeria. In my opinion and based on the figures, Ondo State is suitable for the project. Remain Blessed

See, this is one of the reasons why we have lots of problems in Nigeria. Does shortage of refineries in the Niger-Delta = no refineries in northern Nigeria?

More refineries should be built in the delta, just as more refineries should be built in northern Nigeria. There is no sensible reason why we shouldn't have refineries in northern Nigeria. It is not an empty wasteland as some people think smiley People and businesses who use petrol, diesel and kerosene are in abundance in northern Nigeria (that's why Niger built a refinery near the border to tap into that market, but I don't think we should let them. We should build more facilities to ensure that this market is adequately served).
