info: In practice, because of bandwidth limitations, the Service Providers offer 3G speeds upto 384 kbps while edge's speed is about 236 kbps Agreed, 3G is a little faster but certainly, not 10 times! |
Re: Celtel Edge Network by laykay(m): 1:07am On Apr 28, 2008 |

Re: Celtel Edge Network by texazzpete(m): 7:20am On Apr 28, 2008 |
i really don't think Celtel's got an EDGE network up. Probably your phone interpreting a GPRS signal as EDGE. |
Re: Celtel Edge Network by Nobody: 3:27pm On Apr 30, 2008 |
oldie: Glo offers 1.8 MB which is above your 384 kbps texazzpete: Celtel really got an EDGE network his/my phone didn't interpret any GPRS signal .Gwad. moreover here is a snapshot of the EDGE thingy I came across it today at Tincan (Apapa)

Celtel offers edge, we talked about it on a previous thread titled 'drop your research here'. I first noticed it around millenium park at abuja at the beginning of march. |

info: How i wish i could use opera on my mobile phone, but i can't. Thanks to nokia. In use a 5300 and i don't thin its possible to add proxy address to apn for opera to use. the closest i came was for me to use opera mini mod since it has that option but it can't use port 8080 because its not certified |

laykay: Don't be dense. Did i accuse you of anything? Anyway, i googled it up and it seems Celtel nigeria placed a $70 million order with Motorola for GSM/EDGE expansion/implementation in Nigeria. http://devicearena.com/2007/11/22/celtel-nigeria-selects-motorola-for-70-million-gsmedge-expansion/ |
Re: Celtel Edge Network by Nobody: 2:56pm On May 01, 2008 |
@ texazzpete No more your phone interpreted a GPRS signal as EDGE again? .huh. http://devicearena.com/2007/11/22/celtel-nigeria-selects-motorola-for-70-million-gsmedge-expansion As at Nov 22nd, 2007 @ laykay So your phone didn't interprete a GPRS signal as EDGE. But EDGE itself |
Re: Celtel Edge Network by texazzpete(m): 7:33am On May 02, 2008 |
As a matter of fact, all iPhones in Nigeria display the E icon in place of the GPRS 'G'. it's common on all networks. |

EGPRS,better known as EDGE(Enhanced Data ratesfor GSM Evolution), is more like an upgrade of GPRS(General Packet Radio Service). It bridges the gap between Grps and 3G technologies, Its certainly not as fast as 3G, but its wat faster than G. It is generally classified as 2.7G.It is however capable of offering about everything 3G currently offers. Being relatively cheaper, to install(onlly base stations need to be modified, compared to 3G), it is growing rapidly. so of you can't afford a 3G phone, rather go for this(its hard to find a phone that supports Edge without 3G included, though ) . Read more about it here:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Enhanced_Data_Rates_for_GSM_Evolution |
