The gross loss at the end of a relationship is the time, emotions and money (besides other resources) that both parties invested. When you take away the lessons learned, you would have the net loss. One cannot generally state that the woman (or the man) is always the bigger loser (also implying that they invested more in the relationship), since each relationship is unique and different from the next.

Sometimes the person who was broken up with may feel the bigger loss. For a while. Until he/she realizes that the break-up was the end of skidding down a road in the wrong direction and he/she now has the opportunity to get on the right track.
