@dee02: And all the charlatans criticising the great creative effort of nollywood shame on all of you big time. Why cant any of you produce your own movies lets see how much better they will be? Useless idiots who have never achieved anything in their lives criticising those who are making the effort. This is why your useless country cannever make any progress. Instead of appreciating the effort by nollywood and giving them encouragement, all you could offer was negatives. What a shame. I also suspect a lot of tribal jealousy here. Because nollywood is an Igbo initiative, some Nigerians are dying of envy. But the Igbo is not stopping any of you from creating your own Yorubawood or Hausawood. Afterall the Yoruba'a started the film industry through Ogunde which unfortunately could not go very far. If the Igbo have entered the industry and taken it to an international audience, why the jealousy? Other Africans marvel at Nigerian films, but Nigerians rather than appreciate the effort are blinded by jealousy. Ghana films are of such bad quality that they are learning and copying from nollywood, yet you would never hear Ghanaians disparaging their films. There is no African country, not even South Africa that produces movies as good as the one's from nollywood . Nollywood movies are popular all over Africa. Nollywood is presently the best by African standards, and we should be proud of it, even while we hope the quality improves. It is a learning process. Idiots like Dee02 blinded by jealousy who can neither create nor initiate anything can go and die. The market for Nollywood has gone beyond Nigeria and spread to the whole of Africa and the world. In London, America, Canada etc people rent and watch nollywood movies. I was in Toronto Canada recently in a Jamaican hair dressing saloon and Jamaicans lined up to borrow nollywood movies. That is how far the movies have gone. The industry will continue to prosper, and the actors will continue to get richer. None of you noise making lowlife's here can ever come near any of the actors in fame and recognition. While you are wallowing in frustration the actors have joined the who is who in Nigeria. And many of them have won awards abroad. Peter Edochie was recently given an MON by the Obasanjo administration. Go get a life, unprogresive, and jealous bastards. The tribal jealousy on display here, by lazy fools is the reason many of us feel Nigeria cannot make any progress untill it breaks. |

We are waiting for dee02wood to see how far he can go in producing his own wonderful movies. Useless nonentity. I wonder why you and other fools like yourself are still watching nollywood? If you dont like nollywood dont watch it. I bet you the industry will not miss lowlifes like yourself. Go take a bath, stinky pigs. |

still rolling in laughter at kanayo and clem playing youth corpers Nollywood for all its knocks and insults, still portrays Nigerian society by and large - perhaps it is not highly imaginative, but they remain stories that people can understand and relate to, and generate such passion and heated discussion amongst Nigerians. Kanto you need to chill. . .every industry has its ardent fans/enemies, so let them be- some of this seemingly harsh criticism has made some changes over the years. And I agree - anyone who makes a movie titled Rihanna vs Beyonce needs to be shot. . .we are accommodating but we aren't fools. |

I was thinking more in the lines of drawn and quartered. It's the only way to ensure they suffer as much as the poor sods who had to sit through Rihanna vs Beyonce |
Re: What Nollywood Films Are Known For? by Kanto: 3:22am On Jun 03, 2008 |
@Sisikilli the clown: can you show us one thing you have ever produced in your life? By the way how good was your archaic Ogunde movies? Why not start with producing your own sisikiliwood lets see how much better you can do? All you know how to do is criticise without coming up with any innitiative. Yeye jealous fowl. With empty fish brains like yourself, little wonder your useless country Nigeria has continued to fail inspite of massive human and material resources. Dey there dey frustrate while express is leaving you. While you are here whinning like the useless unknown entity you are, the film stars are smiling to the banks with all the fame and recognition. You are not even qualified to be their house girl. Go take a bath my dear and don't forget to wash your stinky pit. Frustrated Lowlife! |

to tell you the truth sometimes i blame the actors and actresses themselves for allowing the producers to make them such porns how can you accept to act a film called Beyonce, Beyonce Vs Rihanna, Chelsea Vs Liverpool, etc etc If teh actors them selves refused the producers will have to think of something else let me not catch Omosexy ever making girls again ! |

Kanto: My word! All this for little ol’ me? Goodness, no one told me I'll be getting this. . .I would have come with a speech prepared. Mr. Kanto, I suspect you in the industry, which pleases me to no end because I’ve always wanted to say this to one of our great creative artiste. . . 1) You guys make crappy movies. 2) You have no appreciation for excellent story telling. 3) Your actor and actresses need acting classes. . .throw in a diction class too while you’re at it. 4) For the love of all that is holy, get real writers to write real scripts not the director’s wife’s brother in law telling the actors “So when this one enter, he will say give me back my wife, then this one here will come answer NO. . .make it loud because you will be angry naa. You hear? Okay make we start” 5) Last but not least and this one is really more of a pet peeve for me, when your actors start sweating bullets because of the light from the crappy camera you guys use, STOP FILMING. Gah! Do you know how irritating to see sweat dripping off the leading man’s face when he’s trying to be all suave? Ughhh! I bet if you put half the energy you used insulting us charlatans into making movies, this thread won’t be here. Oh don’t worry about the quality of my movies, I may not have your vast experience in movie making, but trust me I know how NOT to make one. . .all thanks to you. I hope you understand. . .we only do this because we care. (((((Hugs)))) and |

@ Seun, Sisikill, Dee02 and all the other enemies of progress, look at yourselves in the mirror, what you see is the reason why your Nigeria can never progress. Nollywood is a relatively new industry that is still struggling to improve. Instead of encouraging it and giving constructive suggestions, all you see on display here is negative outright condenmations by people who have never produced or initiated anything in their lives because of senseless tribalism. The originator of this thread Seun, is an ignorant fellow blinded by tribalism. He introduced a similar thread on the same nollywood topic in 2006 where he declared his hatred for nollywood and called for people's comments. Can Seun and his ignorant supporters tell us if the Yoruba movie industry have ever produced anything better than nollywood? Ogunde movies which were of very poor qualities were filled with babalawo's, juju and they were never popular beyond Yoruba enclaves. What then is the rationale for all the stupid folks here to disparage nollywood that has broken barriers and gone international if not stupid tribalism? Those who want to condenm the effort of others should show us better examples from their own areas. Nigeria is a country where nothing works. No roads, no light, no water etc. If a group can take an innitiative such as nollywood in a dysfunctional country like Nigeria, they should be praised rather than disparaged as some lazy creatures who having nothing better to show from their own areas are doing here. If White people were disparaging and condenming their own people who were taking innitiatives, they wouldnt have been where they are today. This is exactly the reason why i support Nigeria's break-up so that every ethnic group can mind their own business. Thankgod, your miserable, frustrated little lives means nothing. Nollywood is going places, and will continue to go places. It has already been declared the 3rd largest movie industry in the world after Hollywood and Bollywood. Jesus is Lord! |
Re: What Nollywood Films Are Known For? by Seun(m): 1:32am On Jun 06, 2008 |
If you read my post, it's obvious I am on the side of Nollywood. I even asked for positive comments only. You're attacking my solely because I have a Yoruba name. Isn't "Omotola Jolade" also a Yoruba name? |
Re: What Nollywood Films Are Known For? by Emad(f): 4:11pm On Jun 06, 2008 |
Kanto, hummmmmmmmmm why do i have this sneaky feeling you were that Waka pass i saw in a beer palour in the Beyonce Vs Rihanna film Please Sisikill Forgive Kanto his ignorant trespasses as we forgive NOllywood their trespasses against our intelligence and precious time and Seun forgive Kanto for he knows not what he says or acts Now over to you Mr Kanto! I am glad you used the name NOLLYWOOD yourself Dont you think that Name "NOLLYWOOD " is in itself an Emblem of STUPIDITY that name already accepts an inferior position to the original Hollywood The SouthAfricans have a film industry why dont they call it SOLLYWOOD?, and then look at the acting? Emeka Enyiocha acted a film once whre he played dead ( as in he had been shot) and before the scene ended he got up and walked out of the Scene i laughed until my neighbours came to ask me what the problem was now can you beat that Mediocrity? Honestly Kanto i want to believe you are just joking when you say you find the films good quality because if not you are much worse than the fool that i think u are |
Re: What Nollywood Films Are Known For? by Kanto: 5:43pm On Jun 06, 2008 |
@Emad: Another deaf, dumb and blind clown perhaps? Did i ever say nollywood was perfect? Is there anything perfect in this world? As far as i know, even hollywood is not perfect. Go back and read what i wrote you deaf enemy of progress. I made it very clear that rather than condenming nollywood the way some blind tribalists have done here, the emphasis should be on constructive criticism, and encouragement. But i know your motives are deeper than seeing any reason. Little wonder your Nigeria has remained a failed state. |
Re: What Nollywood Films Are Known For? by Emad(f): 6:08pm On Jun 06, 2008 |
at the end of you talk you agreed with me Nigeria has REMAINED in a failed state so how can you say NOLLYWOOD has not FAILED? go easy on the words Deaf and Dumb sounds like a pot calling a kettle black to me |
Re: What Nollywood Films Are Known For? by Kanto: 11:06pm On Jun 06, 2008 |
@Emad: With lazy fish brains and enemies of progress like yourself who condenm the effort and innitiative of others, even when you have never innitiated anything in your life, little wonder your Nigeria is a jungle of failures. Is it enough to open your stinky loudmouths and criticise the effort of others? Why not create your own emadwood, or totowood, or even peniswood, lets see how much better you can do? Afterall its a free world, and nobody stops you from creating your own ashawowood. If you cannot create a better alternative, you better shut your dirty traps. Yeye dey smell! |
Re: What Nollywood Films Are Known For? by Emad(f): 9:23am On Jun 07, 2008 |
Mr Kanto Enough of this nonsense!! 1) if you feel in anywaythat you do not want to listen to what we have to say on this trend, please do not open ur net page on this topic But while we are here, we expect to maintain teh right to hold individual opinions no matter how much these opinions contradict to others 2) i can see that it is people like you who go round nollywooders and give them wrong advice so they wallow in mediocrity all the time without knowing it END of discussion, i rest my case. i do not intend to spend the rest of my life arguing with you!! |
Re: What Nollywood Films Are Known For? by Sisikill: 4:39pm On Jun 07, 2008 |
There is no doubt in my mind that Mr. Kanto is from the Industry. He seems to have one of their main characteristics pat down - The juxtaposing of godliness and ungodliness. They have people killing each other like chickens throughout the movie and right after say To God be the Glory. It’s also why Mr. Kanto here can insult everyone from here to kingdom come and then end his hate-filled post with Jesus is Lord. LMAO. . .Hi.la.rious Tribal Jealousy? ROTFLMAO. . .Puh-lease! Get over yourself. |
Re: What Nollywood Films Are Known For? by Sisikill: 4:48pm On Jun 07, 2008 |
LMAO. . .well no wonder Nollywood is in the state it is. With people like Kanto at the helms, how can we expect anything mildly intelligent? The Guy can't carry a discourse without resorting to insults and nonsensical rants. It would be so funny, if it wasn't so sad. You know what, I take that back. . .it is funny and sad. ROTFLMAOPIMP!!!! |
Re: What Nollywood Films Are Known For? by Kanto: 7:22pm On Jun 08, 2008 |
Nigerians have seen Ogunde movies before. There were full of babalawo's, juju, could not break barriers beyond Yoruba enclaves, and were definitely not better than present day nollywood. So i am throwing again the challenge to all the enemies of progress in nairaland. It is not enough to outrightly condenm and destroy the effort of others. Move your lazy arses, and prick your dead brains for once to create your own movie industry. If you can do better, the world will definitely applaud you. But before then, shut your dirty traps, and respect the creative efforts of others. Case closed. |
