Tahiti qualified for the Confederations Cup by winning the 2012 Oceania Nations Cup with a 1-0 final victory over New Caledonia to become the first side other than Australia and New Zealand to win the tournament since it began in 1973. Tahiti's squad is comprised almost entirely of amateurs, including office workers, labourers, school teachers and salesman, nearly all of whom ply their trade in the local competition on French Polynesia's main island. There is only one professional in the squad - forward Marama Vahirua, who is 33, a former French Under-21s international and who has yet to play a senior international for Tahiti.... CFCfan: Fun fact: Nigeria's Super Eagles reached the semifinals of the 1995 Confederations Cup. This is the only time, so far, that an African team has reached the semis of a senior FIFA tournament.
