The above is a very special project and a creative solution regarding land use and urban planning.
Instead of land owners in the area holding on to their unusable too small lands to develop, the state stepped in and combined their lands together to form a huge land and put up a high rise apartment building where each landowner is entitled to a 3 bedroom apartment with garage and modern facilities while the state holds on to a certain number of units as rental units which they rent out to recoup the cost of the building.

Fashola inspects impressive projects in Ikorodu, Epe areas and others
Jan 15, 2013 - Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babatunde Fashola (SAN), Tuesday led members of his Cabinet to the Ikorodu and Epe areas in continuation of his statewide inspection of projects declaring that the plethora of projects inspected has shown that members of his team have continued to work hard for citizens in all parts of the State.
While responding to a question on why, despite the fact that work is going on at several locations, many people do not seem to know, Governor Fashola declared, "The present administration is not made up of showmen. We don't do turning of the sod. We take our work seriously and this is the work that this new team has put together in one and half years since we got elected. We have not been here but we know the work is going on, the Commissioners take their work seriously; the Special Advisers are also taking their work seriously".
"I get reports every week on what is going on. So, I wasn't under any pressure because in spite of what people were saying, I know the progress we were making. I'm satisfied with what we have seen and again it is also to show you and citizens who we hope that you will communicate with now that their government is working in many more places".
He continued, "All those turning of the sod and all of that before you build the house are not for us. You can see structures, you can see buildings, you can see people on site, on all those sites where houses are being constructed. In Igbogbo, 1,038 people were working as well as 26 companies while in the first scheme in Agbowa there are about 23 companies and 880 people who have been employed there".
"There is another contractor who is using a different model at the Agbowa-Ikosi area for the 144 units. You saw people at the construction site. You see people here dredging and you can see people here working. So that is what is important, the budget is making impact in the most inner recesses of Lagos. In every part of Lagos, we are busy", he added. |

Fashola Continues Inspection Of Projects, Warns Residents On Dangers Of Environmental Abuse
Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babatunde Fashola (SAN), Thursday continued his inspection of on-going projects across the State, reiterating the commitment of his administration to the safety of life even as he warned members of the public against encroachment on lands and properties belonging to Government.
Governor Fashola, who began his inspection from the drainage projects along WEMCO Road, also inspected the Shogunro Scheme Phase 1 and 2 Lagos HOMS in Ogba, the Yaya Abatan/College Road Upgrading project in Ifako-Ijaiye, the Ogo-Oluwa Road Network project also in Ifako-Ijaiye, the proposed Digital Village (Katangowa), Amikanle, the Elere Channel and Ayinke House Upgrade in Ikeja.
Fielding questions from Government House Correspondents after the intensive inspection, Governor Fashola expressed dismay over the attitude of the people towards their environment, warning that the way people treat their environment today would affect everyone in future.
Pointing out that the responsibility of government is to save life and property, Governor Fashola condemned the way people defecate and urinate on the bare ground, pour fuel, engine oil and other chemicals indiscriminately in the name of doing business. He also urged the utilization of cemeteries for burials as against burying the dead in residential areas.
"For me, it is not about doing business today. It is what will happen in 20 years time. We are living in a way that we are abusing the environment. Simply because we want to do business, so we defecate on the road, we urinate, we pour engine oil and we pour fuel on the road because we are running okada business. Even we have to increase the use of cemeteries in burying our dead", the Governor said. |

The Lagos State Government said it would launch its new clean energy programme, tagged ‘Eko Gas’, aimed at encouraging utilisation of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) in the state.
The Commissioner of Energy and Mineral Resources, Taofeeq Ajibade Tijani, who disclosed this said the programme is expected to convert about one million people to using LPG, otherwise known as cooking gas in the next five years. Ajibade said the scheme would be officially launched by Governor Babatunde Raji Fashola, who has made commitment to create incentives for prospective consumers of gas.
According to him, “The state is more focused on promoting greater use of cooking gas in Nigeria by focusing on convenience, cost and safety through excellent gas supply services and development of innovative gas products.”
He said that the essence of the project was to ensure that cooking gas was brought to the door step of all residents of Lagos, especially the low income group, at affordable prices. The project tagged ‘Eko Gas’ would be targeted at the low income group that relies on kerosene because of the erroneous impression that LPG is more expensive.
“The Lagos State Government plans to increase the use of cooking gas among a significant proportion of the populace within the next five years,” he said.
On safety concerns that are raised frequently by potential users of cooking gas, Tijani stated that the product was designed and fabricated with distinguishing qualities such as safety, affordability, portability and environmental friendliness. According to him, about 20 per cent of the cost of cylinder would be eased by the government, in other to encourage Lagosians to the use LPG. - See more at: http://leadership.ng/news/100613/lagos-state-launch-eko-gas-initiative#sthash.eIqriQfl.dpuf

phantom: interesting! I thought we were one country? Another funny jybe. So now you "thought" we are one country. Fashola should Subject Lagos to Capital flight and loose the opportunities to develop the new generation of indigens of Lagos, and satisfy Innosons of Anambra State? one thing you guys should realise is that there is wisdom in seeking understanding on things you know nothing of, rather than display crude ignorance here. Let your state governors creative market that Innosons will compete in or rather Innosons create its market itself........and stopblaming others for your inadequacies. if you and your people refuse to be innovative, how is that Fashola's fault? |
