Gamine: There isn't! not anymore and many women are beginning to realise this,,,, sadly ignorance is still a terrible disease and thats where all the problems are from, plus some men are particularly against the idea,,, put urself in a mans shoes, u're supposed to be the provider and protector of a woman and she decides she has no need for u,,,, quite frankly i dont blame them for being so against d idea the truth of the matter is there are no valid reasons anymore for a woman who has no wish to get married to do so they are being respected as equals in the work place and as leaders in the political arena,,,, anyone who cant respect her decision to remain single is scum and deserves no recognition |
Re: The Dilemma Of The Single Woman by Gamine(f): 12:44am On May 05, 2008 |
See im trying to strengthen my points on why a woman should be married. Who wants to stay Single? Definately not me, when i even have a Campaign MARRIAGE 2010 The other thing is, Society treats unmarried women like crap I have witnessed occassions where, the way a married woman is addressed carries more respect than a single Woman. I wonder why it is so. |
Re: The Dilemma Of The Single Woman by HRhotness(f): 12:45am On May 05, 2008 |
And they respect you when they see that despite the odds u still make a success of yourself FACT! Live for yourself and not society,,,, afterall its your happiness thats important |

I concur, true talk. |
Re: The Dilemma Of The Single Woman by Gamine(f): 12:49am On May 05, 2008 |
Yeah, but they still give Her a very hard time Ok heres an example, A Single woman gets no day off, shes busy working her ass off evryday While a Married woman gets maternal leave like six times a year after her normal maternity leave The workload is den casted on the single woman and they get the same pay |
Re: The Dilemma Of The Single Woman by NubianQ(f): 12:51am On May 05, 2008 |
being single is fun!!!! no big deal, i just want all the money in the world and men come later!!! They say a woman needs a man to be complete, hmmm i don't think so because nowadays people are changing and its a new generation. personally, i think everyone wants to be happy, married or not but circumstances make people decide to be single. i have had my own shit happen and to be honest i am happy being single, its been so much fun and now i do what i want, when i want, how i want. Dont think i can marry someone who i don't want, being selective is not bad. just find who suits u , for me i like people who are intelligent and can hold a good converstation. i never get that, the naija guys i meet are either Male chauvanists(did i spell that correctly ) or just don't know anything about anything except boring stuff. i am into so many things n m a free spirit, thats not suitable for them, so am single , and loving it, ;Dbecause now i do anythin i want, its all about ME ME ME ME ME, anyway hun, do what suits you. a man doesnt complete a woman at all, how about lesbians who are happy. they havent got men n they are complete |
Re: The Dilemma Of The Single Woman by sheniqua: 12:53am On May 05, 2008 |
Gamine: There's no little girl anywhere that dreams of being single all her life. We all dreamt of beautiful weddings and played "mommy" with our friends. But as people pass through life they make choices and for some the choices are forced on them when age is no longer on their side. Our society respects marriage and that should be commended. It's the natural thing to do All humans long to be with someone We are all products of a union (most of us) It is unnatural to want to remain alone. Even those who tell you they choose to be single and unmarried don't stay detached ,they have men they're tangoing with on the side. Marriage just makes it legitimate. So people usually don't necessarily frown at the choice of remaining unmarried but the choice of being unmarried and doing married folk things |
Re: The Dilemma Of The Single Woman by HRhotness(f): 12:54am On May 05, 2008 |
Gamine: well that all depends on the kind of job and what u want for urself,,, u make a decision on the way you want to be treated and accept nothin less if you feel ur someone else is getting preferential treatment then speak up for ur right,,, period! there is an equality act to protect people in the work place and anything less is unacceptable,,, |
Re: The Dilemma Of The Single Woman by MrTurkey(m): 12:54am On May 05, 2008 |
(in a soft and tender tone) i don't mean to be rude, but i really need an independent minded female of the turkey specie for a relationship that should last a lifetime. i thought i could live my life alone (sob) but i finally realised (sob) that i need a companion, someone to hold when the nights get cold (sob) someone to say "honey i'm home" to at the close of work everyday, someone who i could be real to and would answer my name (sob), someone that i could make mistakes with and laugh with after making amendments (sob) i neeed her badlyyy, i can't lie to myself no more that i'd be ok on my own, can't deceive my emotions and swim against chemistry's currents (sob) anyone feel me. . .? |
Re: The Dilemma Of The Single Woman by NubianQ(f): 12:58am On May 05, 2008 |
know what, Sheniqua i agree with you, but to be honest, nowadays marriage can be a waste of time or even thinking of it, oh years ago it was a fantasy, now wit all d shit i have had to deal with, when i think of marriage i think of being sentenced to life in prison wit hard labour yes, being single can be shit but am going to hv kids, single or not cuz to wait for a man will be forever. i see what happens this days n i wonder where all the cool people went, |
Re: The Dilemma Of The Single Woman by sheniqua: 12:59am On May 05, 2008 |
@ Gamine in parts of Europe nursing mothers can take from 6 months to a year off and get paid for it. I doubt if others can do so for that length of time. That should be a benefit for trying to raise a family. |
Re: The Dilemma Of The Single Woman by NubianQ(f): 1:00am On May 05, 2008 |
oh Mr Turkey (sob) dont cry, i will find the perfect nun for u, just keep crying, |
Re: The Dilemma Of The Single Woman by Gamine(f): 1:01am On May 05, 2008 |

Re: The Dilemma Of The Single Woman by NubianQ(f): 1:02am On May 05, 2008 |

Re: The Dilemma Of The Single Woman by HRhotness(f): 1:05am On May 05, 2008 |
sheniqua: I beg to differ,,, the world is evolving and less children grow up with fairytale beliefs with more facing the harsh reality the only reason why little girls dream of wedding and the like are because of stories with Happy endings,,,, life doesn't always hav a happy ending and if u grew up in a home where ur dad constantly beat ur mum to a pulp u wont dream of being a blushing bride. I know some one who knew form day one she didn't want children or a man,,, she just turned 60 and is on a world cruise living her dream. We are all products of a union (most of us) what is natural to u may be unnatural to someone else and vice versa,,, u are simply generalising now sexual satisfaction isnt exclusive to the married,,, the idea of remaining single is rejecting the idea of being tied down to one person remaining in an unmarried relationship gives u the freedon to walk out whenever, it means u dont expect anything of each other and u dont hav to do anything u dont want to,,,, remaining single means u can enjoy companionship without the shackles that come with marriage |
Re: The Dilemma Of The Single Woman by sheniqua: 1:05am On May 05, 2008 |
NubianQ: Don't lose hope There are still good men out there. Sometimes we human have unrealistic expectations of one another. A relationship is give and take. I once had a fiance who was perfect in all ways to me but his table manners were so embarrassing. When he chewed in Jerusalem,it could be heard in Jericho. I was ashamed to have him with me in public. He is now happily married to someone who obviously is not concerned abouit things like that. I kept searching and found someone else |
Re: The Dilemma Of The Single Woman by Dreloaded(f): 1:08am On May 05, 2008 |
osisi seriously did you ever bother talking to him about his atrocious table manners? also when you decided to leave him, lol dd you tell him that was the reason? |
Re: The Dilemma Of The Single Woman by sheniqua: 1:09am On May 05, 2008 |
HR.hotness: If that is what rocks your boat, more power to you. May you always be as free as your heart desires. Marriage, again is a choice and there are many who are happy in it. |
Re: The Dilemma Of The Single Woman by HRhotness(f): 1:10am On May 05, 2008 |
Gamine: you seem to be implying raising a child isnt work remember u don't get set hours or a day off a single girl can go home at the end of the day and let her hair down |
Re: The Dilemma Of The Single Woman by 4Him1(m): 1:10am On May 05, 2008 |
just keep looking. you never know, the person u're looking for may just be right by under ur nose there and u didnt even bother to look. Marriage is scary but if others can make it work then so can you. |
Re: The Dilemma Of The Single Woman by HRhotness(f): 1:12am On May 05, 2008 |
sheniqua: Exactly,,, its a choice so the issue of how natural or unnatural it is shdnt even arise |
Re: The Dilemma Of The Single Woman by sheniqua: 1:12am On May 05, 2008 |
D-reloaded: ROFL. There were other little things but this was one of the reasons. and no,I never told him. |
Re: The Dilemma Of The Single Woman by Gamine(f): 1:14am On May 05, 2008 |
I once had a fiance who was perfect in all ways to me but his table manners were so embarrassing. LOL this is something i CANNOT have NEVER!!! @HRH No it is work apparently but that dosnt mean the single woman dosnt have family obligations that she would like a leave for. what i do know now is that the Single Woman is not equal to the Married woman in our society |
Re: The Dilemma Of The Single Woman by sheniqua: 1:15am On May 05, 2008 |
HR.hotness: I totally get where you're coming from. There are many "strong black independent" women voicing the same opinions even louder and beyond nairaland. |
Re: The Dilemma Of The Single Woman by sheniqua: 1:18am On May 05, 2008 |
Gamine: my friendsthought I was nuts but you cannot imagine how embarrasing it is to watch your soon to be life long partner eating and grunting like a pig. The love just disappeared and I couldn't wait to meet another. |
Re: The Dilemma Of The Single Woman by Dreloaded(f): 1:19am On May 05, 2008 |
Osisi, then how did you break it to him. Werent you two close to getting married? |
Re: The Dilemma Of The Single Woman by 4Him1(m): 1:20am On May 05, 2008 |
sheniqua: and yet you all complain when men say a woman's looks are important when it comes to making a committment. |
Re: The Dilemma Of The Single Woman by Gamine(f): 1:21am On May 05, 2008 |
@Sheniqua, Haba you should have known before getting that far lol. |
Re: The Dilemma Of The Single Woman by Dreloaded(f): 1:21am On May 05, 2008 |
how can you compare looks to table manners?? |
Re: The Dilemma Of The Single Woman by 4Him1(m): 1:22am On May 05, 2008 |
D-reloaded: I'm not compareing bothin literal terms. Sheniqua says she cant live with a man with poor table manners, the same way many men feel they cant live with a woman who does not satisfy their aesthetic desires. |
Re: The Dilemma Of The Single Woman by HRhotness(f): 1:24am On May 05, 2008 |
sheniqua: I probably wld hav done the same thing I'm notoriously impatient with people with poor manners |
Re: The Dilemma Of The Single Woman by Dreloaded(f): 1:25am On May 05, 2008 |
Isnt the "aesthetics" of a person the first thing you see though? If a man sees a woman and isnt immediately attracted to her, why would it even get to the point of a relationship. It was when they were IN a relationship that she realized the dude ate like a pig as oposed to when you meet someone and you see that they LOOKS like a pig so it wouldnt even get to the point of marriage in the firts place |
