hello house I have a Nissan Altima 2007 2.5L engine CVT. Ran a diagnostic checks today and got the following codes · P1574 · P1715 · P1778 · P0550 Noticeable symptoms · Car accelerates slowly when starting up and when climbing steeply hill or bridge even if the accelerator is pressed to the floor. · Engine shuts down mostly at slow speeds when the car starts up- (the lights on dashboard remains on) · speedometer drops to zero when speed limits reaches like 40kmh. at this point the yellow key light comes on but the car continue driving but seems to lose power. · Steering wheel hard a little · The transmission still selects gear. can anyone help with the above. |
Re: Official Nissan & Infiniti Thread by Nobody: 7:51pm On May 26, 2016 |
aribolseg:P1778 is to be most dreaded because it just might be the beginning of the end of the cvt. But it may well (hopefully) have been triggered by the other codes. There are some two or three variations to the 2007 Altima and before I can make comments on the codes I'd want to be certain we're specifically dealing with your car. This can only be done through your VIN. Are you disposed to post it? Or you may call me to do some brainstorming. |

Re: Official Nissan & Infiniti Thread by Kashif(m): 4:28pm On May 27, 2016 |
Costee: I think otherwise - 1778 setting the others. |
Re: Official Nissan & Infiniti Thread by Nobody: 5:01pm On May 27, 2016 |
Kashif:That might not be cheery. I was actually going to refer him to you after discussions with him. |

Re: Official Nissan & Infiniti Thread by aribolseg(m): 5:05pm On May 27, 2016 |
Kashif: please what do you mean by that. can you explain clearer? |
Re: Official Nissan & Infiniti Thread by Nobody: 5:15pm On May 27, 2016 |
aribolseg:That is, P1778 is triggering off P1574 and P1715. P0550 (Power Steering Pressure Sensor), I believe, is an independent issue. Still, I prefer to reserve further comments until I'm sure of your car specs. |
Re: Official Nissan & Infiniti Thread by Kashif(m): 5:21pm On May 27, 2016 |
Costee: If it is strictly stepper motor going bad then, it is straight forward but, we know how these codes work Costee: Exactly. |
Re: Official Nissan & Infiniti Thread by Nobody: 5:31pm On May 27, 2016 |
Kashif:In Primeras with CVT, yes you can source and replace the stepper motor. Not so in cvt in Nissan America. The best you'll get is valve body (of which the SM is a component) replacement. |

Re: Official Nissan & Infiniti Thread by Kashif(m): 10:07am On May 28, 2016 |
aribolseg: If it's confirmed that your problem is the SM, I could source it for you. Good luck. |
Re: Official Nissan & Infiniti Thread by Nobody: 10:33am On May 28, 2016 |
aribolseg:Manufactured in Feb 2007 with Grey exterior and Frost interior colours. Fed spec. I'll check it out later. NB: The letters I(i) and O(o) are not used in VIN. Its 1 and 0. |

Re: Official Nissan & Infiniti Thread by Kashif(m): 7:19pm On May 28, 2016 |
aribolseg: I have now reread your original complaint. It is a SM/VB issue with that transmission. The TCM is inside the transmission. It receives signal from the speed sensor and sends same to the ECU, which in turn sends to the speedo. With the stepper motor malfunctioning, the TCM thinks it has a bogus feed at around 40mph, and cuts off signal to the ECU. Your speedo should start working again after speed drops to around 8mph right? At the other hand, it could be the TCM! I don't know who is troubleshooting this for you, and the level of his competence but unfortunately, I cannot do much for you personally apart from probably helping look for a stepper motor for you. CVTs have fewer components than a regular AT, its problems most times are with the electrical. Has a technician looked at the car? |
Re: Official Nissan & Infiniti Thread by aribolseg(m): 7:57pm On May 28, 2016 |
thanks so much @kashif you really got my issue and now i have a better understanding as regards the malfunction. i have involved @nisspart. we already discussed and i will get the car to him next week. i'll let you know of the outcome. one more thing please.. does the tranny still selects gears if one continues driving after the TCM cuts off signal to the ECU?. just wondering cos the car keeps moving at this point though not a normal drive. |

aribolseg:what has your experiences being with this car? have u replaced the cvt before? Following this thread in anticipation. |
Re: Official Nissan & Infiniti Thread by Kashif(m): 12:01am On May 29, 2016 |
aribolseg: It drives in failsafe mode, meaning the RPM will be higher (typically 3000). When transmissions safe fail, they tend to drive at mid range. Let me know how it goes with Nisspart. It will help to test all electricals relating to the transmission . Good luck! |
